this is hella scary. the president of the U.S is literally retweeting anti-Muslim propaganda. this is the shit dictators do when they want to ostracize a certain demographic. don’t tell me there’s nothing wrong and horrifying about this.

This is disgusting and exactly what Carl Schmitt describes as the “Sovereign Exception”.

Basically, the sovereign (The president), decides on who is the “exception” in society and to whom the rights of citizenship apply or do not apply.

The acceptance of this is one of the quickest ways for democracy to degenerate into tyranny.  Instead of upholding our values for everyone, we allow the government/regime to decide and it is all fun and games until you find out they are coming for you next.  That’s how tyrants stay in power, there always has to be an enemy.

Top one was traced back - the attacker is White and Dutch.

Second one was also sourced - it’s violence surrounding the coup against Morsi in Egypt, it’s not clear if either the attackers or the target or both or neither were “Islamists”.

Third one hasn’t been sourced, but just so we’re clear, it’s coming from the same people who gave us outright inaccurate or deeply misleading “contextualization” like the above.

It’s worth pointing out - these were tweeted by the leader of Britain First, Jayda Fransen, who is currently being tried for inciting religious hatred in the UK. Britain First is, in the words of the BBC, a “British far-right group” which was linked very explicitly to the murder of Jo Cox, an MP, last year, as her murderer reportedly yelled “Britain first” as he attacked her clinic.

Trump retweeting Britain First has caused mass uproar in the UK, and there was an emergency Urgent Question session in Parliament this morning for MPs to quiz the government on how they plan to react to this, as Britain First is a racist, fascist group. Especially since Theresa May offered a state visit (carriages, trumpets, and all) to Donald Trump in January.

Which, if you’re wondering, is still on, although it has yet to be arranged - according to the Parliamentary session this morning. But MPs across the chamber were very adamant that Trump is racist, that his visit should be rescinded, and a few mentioned either that Trump should have all visit offers rescinded or otherwise that he should be banned from entering the UK - as past “hate preachers” (that’s a quote from the session) have been.

Unfortunately, Theresa May and the Tories have as much backbone as a amoeba, so none of that has happened. All she’s done is “strongly condemned” him, in the words of the Home Secretary.
