I’d also like to note that yesterday he announced (via Instagram of all things) that he was withdrawing the bill he’d introduced that would have basically given away a bunch of Utah public lands to development interests. He basically said that it was due to pressure from the hunting lobby – because assholes like him don’t listen to the environmental lobby – but honestly I think it was because word was getting around for people to go to this town hall and tear him apart. I think he was trying to avoid this exact situation and they showed up and let him have it anyway. Bless these people. And it does show that you CAN make them back down. That public lands giveaway was fucking awful and he’s dropped it.
Sometimes political action in Utah seems entirely pointless, because our congressmen here are some of the most fucking ridiculous, far-right, absurd assholes (I mean we’ve got Lee, Hatch, Love, Chaffetz, Stewart, Bishop… you’d think there weren’t any Democrats in the whole fucking state), and they’re not going to listen to anything that isn’t their pre-set agenda. But stuff like this that publicly shows opposition to them and denies them the opportunity to get a positive soundbite is so fucking important.
