Aesculus glabra is in the family Sapindaceae. Commonly known as Ohio buckeye, it is native to the midwest United States. Ohio buckeye is a deciduous tree that can grow over 80 feet tall. Outside of its native range, Ohio buckeye is cultivated as an ornamental tree because of its elaborate flowers. All parts of the Ohio buckeye are toxic because of the high amounts of aesculin, which can cause convulsions and death at high doses.
