Echinocereus triglochidiatus is in the family Cactaceae. Commonly known as kingcup cactus, it is native to much of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Kingcup cactus is a mound forming species, often producing hundreds of stems in clumps in gravelly and sandy soils. The deep red to magenta colored flowers have copious amounts of nectar at the bottom of a deep nectar chamber to reward passing hummingbirds that pollinate this species.
