And it is a myth that is used to delegitimize efforts to reform the economic system, raise the minimum wage, and improve welfare systems.

And it ISN’T TRUE. “People on welfare just sit around on day on the sofa” is NOT A FACTUAL STATEMENT.

One key finding from a study by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, that showed the majority of households receiving government assistance are headed by a working adult.

52% of fast food workers, 46% of child care workers, 48% of home-care workers and 25% of part-time college faculty also receive government assistance.

A report from House Democrats in 2013 found that a single 300-person Wal-MartSupercenter store in Wisconsin costs taxpayers at least $904,542 per year, or about $5,815 per employee because those employees need government assistance to LIVE.

We also need to remember that, The largest single group “on welfare” is children – about one in every four children under the age of 18 receives welfare benefits. America has the greatest level of child poverty anywhere in the industrialized world.

People should not be trapped in low paying jobs in order to survive. The basic needs to live should not be granted only to those who are able to work ENOUGH. Our economic system is broken.
