Sometimes it’s good to remember when you are not the ally

When you are the marginalized

Because allies must always speak up. Ally is a never ending verb. A responsibility, an obligation, in the absence of an oppression.

And sometimes it’s all to easy to forget to remember that sometimes you do not have that obligation

When you are not the ally

it is ok to be scared.

It is ok to be silent out of fear or exhaustion. Just for a while.

It is ok to say “I don’t want to deal with this right now. I don’t want to think about it.”

Because when it is our burden to carry, sometimes all you can do is carry it

Instead of trying to lift it off your back
