Read the details first please. Would you rather spend eight hours with:

A group of Reddit-user atheists

A group of Catholics

A group of Protestants

A group of new-age crystal users

A group of American anglophiles

A group of diverse girlboss multilevel marketers

A group of vegans who cannot point to Chile on a map

A group of Revolutionary War reenactors

A group of Gen Z influencers from Los Angeles

A group of white retirees from Seattle

See Results
  • None of them are gonna be physically violent
  • The Reddit users are going to judge you if you express any religious or “unscientific” sentiment
  • The Catholics run the gamut from “hardcore pro-lifer” to “Nun who invented communism”
  • The Protestants have brought lots of food but are going to proselytize the entire time you eat
  • The crystalists are split 60/40 on whether or not vaccines cause autism, and you don’t know who has the majority until you’ve been there an hour
  • The Anglophiles have good pastries, but 1/3 of them are in Sherlock cosplay
  • The girlbosses are all within 10° to the left of the center of the political spectrum and will try very hard to get you to invest in their MLM
  • The vegans brought food but will turn hostile if you let slip that you’ve used animal products in the last year
  • The reenactors have booze, but your phone is dead and they’re giving a very pro-America history lecture
  • The influencers have a pool, a jacuzzi, and lots of drugs, but they have a combined net worth that teaches seven digits and won’t let you forget it
  • The retirees have great weed but they’re gonna ask you a lot of invasive questions and give you a lot of unsolicited advice.

“When we go to shoot the scene, the director says, “Isn’t that roast kind of big for one person?” One person? Hannibal is not one person. He is a surgeon, an artist, a psychiatrist, a flower-arranger, a gourmet cook, an oenophile, a brew-meister, a boy who lost his sister, a man who can’t stop killing, and a god. And he gets hungry.”

celebrities will really be like “i am non-binary” and people will just ignore it

gerard way will literally be like “i used to dress in women’s clothes at school and i really enjoyed it” “i don’t really identify with masculinity and i have considered myself to be a trans girl” “this self-insert character i created and portrayed in a series of music videos is a non-binary lesbian” and people will just be like “oh yeah gerard is a man, he’s male. definitely of a masculine gender”

janelle monae has come out as non-binary, publicly, in magazine interviews, TWICE now and ppl are like oh yeah! janelle is a woman. she’s female. 100% womyn

BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG WILL LITERALLY WRITE A SONG ABOUT HOW HES BEEN CROSSDRESSING FROM A VERY YOUNG AGE AND WEAR THONGS ON STAGE AND SOMEONE WROTE “BILLIE JOE IS ACTUALLY A CUTE YOUNG LESBIAN” ON HIS ASS ONE TIME AND PEOPLE WILL BE LIKE WOW THAT SURE IS A MALE DAD

Suzy Eddie Izzard will state time and again that she’s genderfluid and half y'all will say she’s a trans woman while the other half still insist she’s a man.

You’ve heard of Earth is space australia now get ready for: Earth is the space Amazon Rainforest. Aliens land on Earth and they are losing their goddamn minds because every square inch of the ground is absolutely PACKED with life like there are hundreds of species just in this one site, there are winged animals flying through the sky and multiple colonies of sophisticated social insects just in the shadow of their ship, this ONE ROCK is covered in MULTIPLE SPECIES OF ORGANISMS that are themselves MULTIPLE ORGANISMS LIVING SYMBIOTICALLY, the tall, woody autotrophs look so different from each other because they’re…holy shit that’s like 5, 6, 7???? different species on this one site???

they start talking to a human and the human is like “haha yeah that’s a crow!” and the alien researcher is like “you called it a ‘bird’ earlier, is that a different name?” and the human is like “oh a crow is just one species of bird, there’s like, 10 others out there”

“On this planet?”

“No, in the back yard right now.”

imagine aliens that come from a tidally locked planet where only a thin band of the planet is habitable, or a planet life was only able to develop in small areas at the poles, or in the few pools of liquid water on the planet’s surface, or just in isolated areas where geologic activity causes geysers and springs, visiting Earth. They seem completely unprepared for the shock of realizing that Earth’s continents appear green because the continents are absolutely covered with green organisms.

The alien biologists are so uncomfortable because there are certain protocols for maintaining certain distances from life signatures to avoid harming unfamiliar organisms, and groves of plant like autotrophs and pools where aquatic life dwells are carefully protected and respected, with very important rules for approach

On Earth, the inhabitants are just. Playing and walking LITERALLY STEPPING ON CARPETS OF ORGANISMS the whole time. the aliens are like “it doesn’t hurt them??? Can’t you just…move them to a place where you don’t have to step on them?” and the humans are like “no of course not, grasses evolved to tolerate being stepped on, and besides, more plants would grow there if we tried to move the existing ones”

It then must be explained that humans would need to regularly spray poisons on the ground to prevent any given area of bare soil from filling up with plant life, and that “regularly” means “multiple times within a single solar cycle.” And that the poisons stop working within a few decades because the plants evolve to resist them that fast.

Human: yeah solar is the dominant energy source these days but some of the recent solar farm projects are pretty controversial because they’re in reclaimed strip mining sites that others argue should be restored as best as we can to their previous ecological state

Alien: I don’t understand…why would you not place the solar farms in an area of the planet with no existing ecosystem?

Human: …what?

Alien: You have rather sophisticated protective gear and have done some space exploration, surely you could establish them in an area of the planet to which life is not yet adapted?

Human: …there isn’t one.

Alien: …what do you mean there isn’t one

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU ’DON’T KNOW’ HOW MANY SPECIES THERE ARE

“Our biologists would love to collaborate with your Earth scientists to draw up a definitive listing of Earth species and resolve any inconsistencies in the records.”

“I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. Only 25% of Earth’s species have been formally described, at most.”

“that’s…that’s most of them.”

“Yes?”

“Well…I suppose the ocean trenches and abyssal plains must be difficult for you to reach…where did you have to travel for your discoveries?”

“Travel? I moved here to Alabama in the first place to study its aquatic ecosystems. The crayfish I discovered live in that creek I showed you earlier.”

it’s rly sweet ppl think I live anywhere near a target like,

i can walk into some of the shops in my town barefoot carrying my dog and nobody will tell me to leave.

target isn’t brave enough to build here.

The last bastion of hope.

yeah also it’s not illegal to ride a horse to a bar and get wrecked in lieu of a designated driver so like. we have a lot going on here.

Let’s be real though, the horse will always head back to its barn, so really this is a great idea. Get smashed, tie yourself to the horse, let the horse do whatever, and you’ll end up at home.

…..not that I’ve ever done that on a trail ride before.

Okay, so a trail horse is reliable here, because a horse that’s afraid of city noises will head for home and avoid anything “dangerous” because it’s afraid.

However, in my experience city-trained horses are much more obedient and are unafraid of roads and trust their rider a lot more fully.

So if your drunk ass says “yeah let’s steer into oncoming traffic”

the horse is gonna say “seems weird but okay man.”

Okay this is 100% a legitimate point.

The only horse you should trust as DD is a horse with a healthy fear of speeding traffic.

I would hope that that’s all horses

It is possible and common to train the good sense right out of a city horse.

Very very true.

A city horse would walk facefirst into an oncoming train if you asked it to.

This is why I prefer country horses with a degree of realization of its own mortality left to it.

What the hell kinda city has a horse

…I just love the fact that there is a distinction between country horse and city horse.

What is a city horse, what IS it

left ma and pop’s farm to make it big out there…..that horse’s gonna be a star

I know a guy who got a DUI on a donkey

OK but I know of a guy who got OUT of a DUI by arguing the horse was the designated driver, and demonstrating that the horse was indeed qualified enough to get them both home. I also know someone who got a speeding ticket on a bicycle.

For historical context, this is about making a panel for the AIDS quilt, a memorial project which began in San Francisco in 1985. Due to the stigma surrounding both homosexuality and AIDS during this time, victims of the epidemic were often cremated and disposed of or buried without ceremony, their bodies unclaimed by their families or origin or held by hospitals rather than released to same-sex partners.

Each panel in the AIDS quilt memorializes a life lost to the disease. Each panel is 3′ x 6′ (approximately 1 meter wide and 2 meters long), the approximate dimensions of a cemetery plot. The quilt, which then consisted of 1,920 panels representing 1,920 individuals lost to AIDS, was first displayed in Washington DC in 1987. The public response was immediate, positive, and overwhelming, and the quilt began taken around the country to be displayed in more cities. At each stop, the names of the dead were read out loud. At each stop, more panels were added.

By the time the quit returned to the US capital in 1988, it had more than 8,000 panels.

The quilt continues to grow. Today, it has over 50,000 panels memorializing over 100,000 of our dead. It’s too large now to physically display in its entirety, but you can view the entire thing online. There are also curated virtual displays of just panels which honor the Black and native people killed by the virus because in the US (and likely abroad, although I don’t know enough about public health elsewhere to say so with confidence), communities of color are disproportionately impacted by epidemics, as we have seen time and time again.

You can learn more about the quilt and its history here, and you can learn how to add a panel to the quilt here.

If you’re unable to access the quilt, here’s a zoomed in screenshot of the bottom left corner:

The quilt is made up of several panel, each panel itself consisting of 1 to 8 quilts.

Here’s a screenshot of the whole thing:

This is only about half of the people - our people - who were left to die because the government didn’t think “the gay disease” was a problem. This is why we march.
