normal things with creepy connotations:

  1. stopped clocks
  2. people accidentally speaking in unison
  3. cold wind at night (when it’s not snowing)
  4. seeing a light go off in a window
  5. static in the air - everyone’s hair is standing up
  6. slow piano music in a place that’s otherwise silent
  7. finding something you lost a long time ago sitting in plain sight

If gender is innate, if girls and boys are just naturally different and naturally like different things, want different things, show different behaviors, why do we have to put so much effort, so much work into separating them?

If gender was innate it wouldn't have to be indoctrinated into anyone. Everyone would naturally pick what they want to pick, and every girl would pick the same thing while every boy would pick the opposite. We would never have to tell any little girl or little boy anywhere, “this is not for you, it’s for boys/girls”.

satire is “I’m going to take this concept to an extreme or absurd level in order to demonstrate how bizarre/nonsensical/illogical it is” and not “I said something bigoted but just kidding I didn’t really mean it hahaha”

Dang it I’ve written like 5000 words trying to explain this and I only needed this post to reblog

#i always remember that thing terry pratchett said #about how satire is meant to ridicule power #if you’re laughing at people who are hurting it’s not satire it’s bullying (tags via @vrabia)

Punching up

if a self proclaimed bigot watched your satirical piece, would they enjoy it or would it make them uncomfortable because they’re the punchline?

A few years ago, my aunt raised 4 baby squirrels whose mother died a few days after they were born.  She had to syringe feed them every 3 hours for weeks.  Once they were full grown, she slowly started to introduce them to the outside.  But anytime she left a window open, they would come right back in.  So she started leaving some food for them on the front porch and that seemed to appease them.  Now a couple years later, all 4 of them have mates and several kids each, and their kids are starting to have babies.  And all of them still come to her front porch.  Even the “grandkids” will come to her and climb all over her and eat out of her hand.  And a couple days ago she decided to make a table and some chairs for them just as a joke, but they actually love it!

everyone meet my aunt

Watch: Sophina DeJesus performed what may be the greatest routine of all time — with the scores to match.

Sophina DeJesus single-handedly changed the fucking game

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

She stuck that landing somethin serious, didnt she!?!?

BUT WHAT SCORE DID SHE GET?  The video stopped before they showed the score!

It said just above the video it was a 9.925 out of 10

Thank you… obviously I missed that.

The article says ‘it doesn’t matter if they won or lost’ but I beg to differ.  It matters a great deal that she won.  The commentators loved it.  The judges loved it.  The audience loved it.  They loved her.  They loved her being modern and unapologetically black.  Traditional sports like this where there’s an artistic/aesthetic component, where the judges have some discretion, you can get absolutely screwed on your score if they think you’re not being ‘true’ to traditions or ‘the sport’ or the like.

She got a 9.925.  Her first round out with this, no warning to the judges how special it is going to be, and she got a 9.925.  A black girl with black music and black dance moves got the unquestionable approval from the officials of a sport that is traditionally hella white in this country.  And yes, she absolutely fucking killed the tumbling passes too, but they could’ve dinged her a lot more for not being ‘elegant’ or some bullshit.  They don’t even have to admit it – her first landing wasn’t perfect, and they could have knocked her as much as possible for that and pretended that was why.  But they didn’t.

And like, that should be not astounding.  The fact that she carried herself with beauty and dignity and grace and power and nailed the hell out of her technical elements should always mean a score like that.  But it doesn’t because, as you probably already know, racism.  And the fact that today there was no racist bullshit in college sports, well.  That occasion is still rare enough it’s worth talking about.
