“snl takes on #oscarssowhite and nails it”

ah yes the people who just got criticized for their painfully white cast and then hired a couple of black people after poking fun at themselves are the prime example of nailing #oscarssowhite

absolutely

now we’ve got white people laughing at white people freaking out about “formation” and white people who allowed trump to be on snl joking about white people who support trump

does snl know the meaning of self-awareness

My buddy read an article about octopus intelligence. It was feeding time, and the handler dumped some shrimp into an octopus’ tank. Then he went into another room and sat at his desk.

A while later, a shrimp was tossed onto his desk.

The octopus, upon finding one bad shrimp in the lot, had grabbed it, escaped its tank, crossed the hall, and threw the expired shrimp at its caretaker. Not only does this showcase their problem-solving capabilities, but also that it could have escaped at any time. It just broke out this time to chuck an off shrimp in indignation at its handler. That’s not just intelligence, that’s a human-like reaction. Kinda make you wonder exactly how smart these guys can be…

OH MY GOD

I went to the aquarium once and we had a tour and we walked past the octopus tank and it was duct taped shut so I asked why and the guy was like. “Well, we had a problem before because these fish were disappearing randomly at night and we had no idea why. Turns out the octopus had memorised the night guards rounds and would creep out of its tank, crawl across the floor to the fish tank, have a little snack and be back in its own tank with the lid shut before the guard came back.” they are super smart

I love octopuses so, so much.

@_@

I am both delighted and FUCKING TERRIFIED.

Once I went to the aquarium where they had a baby pacific red octopus in a tank. I had gone there to work on a few real life sketches, obviously I wanted to do one of an octopus. So I kinda just kneeled in front of the tank, and started sketching. The octopus didn’t mind, he sat happily. Then, 5 minutes later, he started moving to the front of the tank, where I was. This tiny octopus faces me directly and starts posing. I don’t know how other to explain it but he started curlung his tentacles in this really graceful way then wouldn’t move for a few minutes. Then again, a new pose. That tiny cute motherfucker knew I was drawing him.

Nigeria’s Youngest Monarch

Obi (King) Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I, the newly crowned Obi of Ubulu Uku in Anioma, the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State, Nigeria, is Nigeria’s youngest monarch at age 17 as of February 2016. His ascension to the throne came after his late father, Obi Akaeze Edward Ofulue III, the former Obi, was kidnapped and murdered by suspected herdsmen in January.

Hundreds have died and continue to die in Nigeria from conflicts between some nomadic Fulani herdsmen from northern Nigeria and their host communities, (including kidnapping for ransom) and especially in Benue state where over 300 people including women and children have recently been killed in the Agatu local government area. Entire villages have been raised down over cattle. More than 3000 people have died since 2010 through such clashes.

Like seriously I wish we had a more comprehensive sex education program in the U.S. You know how many guys I know who had no idea an unaroused vagina is only 2-3 inches deep? Or that the cervix raises up when aroused to accommodate dick? Or that if a girl is “tight” that generally means she’s not turned on and you’re shitty in bed? Or that the cervix has an entire cycle it goes through throughout the month where is changes hardness, placement in the vagina, wetness? Like, when you’re ovulating your cervix gets soft and raises high up into the vagina and your hormones get you really horny. It’s like natures way of moving the furniture around and fluffing the pillow for dick because it wants to get pregnant. And before menstruation, it gets really hard and low in the vagina. It’s basically inactivating it’s Facebook and saying “I just need some alone time for a few days”

Ladies and gentlemen, take a moment to learn about vaginas. Men, take an interest into your woman’s menstrual cycle!

U.S. Needs better sex Ed because I’m a 23 year old woman and didn’t even know all of this

Hi I had no idea about the cervical cycle.

God bless this post pls share it far & wide

putmeincoach reblogged your post and added:

Please, list me all of those female architects, scientists and great minds that male architects and scientists ripped off. No, really, I am curious to see all of these female inventors and pioneers you’re speaking of.

You do not get to make demands of me, you are a piece of shit that isn’t fit for the bottom of my shoe. I cant even take you seriously, why the fuck should I care what a knuckle dragger like you thinks of me? I’ll list a few since I cant actually grind your throat under my boot.

Ada Lovelace- Founder of scientific computing, the worlds first computer programmer. Modern computers as we know them wouldnt exist without her innovations.

Queen Seondeok of Silla- Silla was one of the three kingdoms in Korea’s Three Kingdom period and Seondeok was its first reigning Queen. She is well known for setting up the first astronomy tower in Asia and for founding several Buddhist temples.

Cecilia Payne- discovered what the sun was made of. Was then prohibited from publishing her work. Henry Norris Russel republished her work as his own and received all the credit.

Jocelyn Bell Burnell- Discovered the first pulsar. Anthony Hewish took credit and listed her a non involved assistant, he had nothing to do with the discovery. Not only did he receive all the credit, he received the Nobel prize.

Lise Meitner- Co-Discovered Nuclear fission and her male colleagues refused to name her in their publication. The men won the Nobel Prize, and received no credit.

Nettie Stevens- Discovered chromosomes determined sex, when she sent her work to a man for peer review, he published a book of her work passing it off as his own and named her a technician.

Marie Curie- Noted Nobel prize laureate (first lady to earn 2), discovered radium. Barred from many prestigious male dominated academic organizations like the French Academy due to being a female. She was demonized and attacked by men all her life simply for being superior to men in the field, and men in general.

Marie Van Brittan Brown- co-invented home security surveillance that is the precursor of home security systems today. You wont hear her name in history class, not only is she a woman, she is a black woman. ERASED by nasty white men LIKE YOU.

Lucy Terry- Another historical black woman, erased by neo-colonialist white men. This young lady was a teenager when she composed the first known work of literature by an African American person.

Mary Shelley- Invented science fiction. She literally invented a genre of literature, she was teenager when she wrote her first piece.  across the northern American continent. While she was pregnant.

Sacagawea- an indigenous american (Lemhi Shoshone) who led Lewis & Clark across the northern American continent. While she was pregnant.

Elizabeth Gurley Flynn- feminist, suffragette, civil rights activist, founded the ACLU

Sarah Parker Remond- worked to desegregate schools and end slavery. Also noted physician- but you wont read about her in your white history books because she is black. Its like you white dudes just threw together some shitty fan fiction and called that history.

Hedy Lamarr- came up with an early technique for spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping, necessary for wireless communication from the pre-computer age to the present day. She invented your wi-fi in addition to being an actress. SUCK IT.

Vera Rubin- Rejected from Princeton because she was female, went to Cornell instead and discovered dark matter while earning her PhD. Went on to make contributions that your simpleminded white male self couldn’t begin to fathom.

This list is just a taste of what women have accomplished. Women invented the core technologies that make civilization possible. This is a not a feminist myth, this is what anthropologists KNOW. Women have made those contributions in spite of astonishing hurdles. Hurdles like not being allowed to go to school, or not being allowed to work in an office with men, or join a professional society, or walk on the street, or own property. Hell, some of these women were legally deemed property, a fraction of a human being.

And yet! Here you are, a man dismissing women’s contributions because you are taught revisionist, racist patriarchal history coming at me like its my responsibility to educate your ignorant ass. Even have to the audacity to attribute hetero-normative heart break as the reason for my rage. BASIC. I’ve put you in your place now, so go away.

I have a VERY important addition:

Rosalind Franklin: Watson and Crick, who got the credit and the Nobel for discovering the structure of DNA, could never have done it if not for the x-ray crystallography done by ROSALIND FRANKLIN who for many years was almost totally ignored.

Chief Shuing Wu (1912-1997), her two male colleagues won a Nobel prize for her work, experiments conducted by her which disproved the scientific law of “Principle of Conservation of Party”, which was a widely accepted law at the time.

Ida Tacke (1896-1978), made advances in fields of chemistry and physics which were ignored and then later “rediscovered” by her male colleagues, who got the credit.

Ester Lederberg (1922-2006) worked side-by-side with her husband, who won a Nobel prize for work they took equal roles in, while she received no credit.

Henrietta Leavitt (1868-1921), her discoveries revolutionized the fields of astrology and physics (advances that later helped men like Edward Hubble and Harlow Shapley with their work). Since she had no male colleagues, credit wasn’t given to anyone else, it just simply was never acknowledged by the Harvard director. She was later honored after her death.

Honestly this is such a common phenomenon that there’s a name for it: “the Matilda effect”.

Hey, @putmeincoach do you know the woman who pretty much single-handedly wrote the code for the Apollo shuttle missions?
I bet you know Neil, Buzz and John, who flew it, and if you’re into astrophysics and rocket science like I am, you might even know that it was Steve Bales, call sign GUIDO, who made the call “Go for landing”.

You probably don’t know that it was Margaret Hamilton who made the actual computation using little more than coding, a slide rule and a hole punch.

During the Lunar Landing, the astronauts overloaded the computer, spurring a 1201 Alarm. Bales admits he had no memory of what a 1201 Alarm on Lunar Descent meant, and he blanked. When he did, he had the good sense to call Hamilton, who told him that on her orders, MIT had tested the protocol under these “impossible” conditions and that if he followed her parameters and code, it’d be safe to land.

And they did.

So, it may have been one small step for Neil, but it was a woman named Margaret Hamilton who held the ladder.

What monumental achievement did have you accomplished to rival any of the women on this list?

Albert Einstein, Elon Musk, Alexander Graham Bell, Guglielmo Marconi, and Douglas C. Engelbert. Here are some actual notable people.

As opposed to, what, a few astronomers, physicists, chemists, astrophysicists, novelists, and rulers?

God, yeah, I guess those silly little biddies aren’t at all notable. Not like Einstein–who actually was influenced by his first wife, Mileva Maric, right?

But that’s cool, you’re right. The woman who invented computation as a science, the woman who invented wifi, the woman who invented SCIENCE FICTION, or the one who invented the star classification charts, or the other one who discovered dark matter, or the one who was personally responsible for ensuring humans landed on the fucking MOON…

I bet they all make a mean sammich, tho, right?

Dale Spender wrote a book about how this aspect of the mythology of male superiority is maintained through the years. It is called Women of Ideas and What Men Have Done to Them. Their capacity for self delusion is no less today than when they taught from the books Mary Somerville wrote at the university she was denied admission to.

I hate this guy. Everyone just please block him.

The ENIACs… aka the first computer programmers… were all women. Programming was a woman’s thing until men realized how influential it was going to be, then they took over the field, silenced women, and erased their work.

There’s an entire episode of the new Cosmos dedicated to the women who, working together, created the star classification system and classified/named/worked through the star charts, as well as the woman who proved the reality of continental drift. (I’m on my phone, if someone would add their names that’d be appreciated.)

Oh, and the women who developed the star classification system? Two of them were also D/deaf.

Don’t forget that F. Scott Fitzgerald stole his wife’s work & had her institutionalized so he could get away with that…

Admiral Grace Hopper led the team that invented the core of the programming language COBOL and convinced her male managers to use it. It’s got somewhere between 180-200 billion lines of code in use today. Also she attained the rank of rear-admiral in the navy. In the fucking 50′s. How many white dudes achieved a military rank in a country that wouldn’t let them open their own fucking bank account?

Roberta Williams co-founded Sierra Entertainment with her husband and created dozens of games, including the King’s Quest series. Pioneered the adventure genre that relied on creatively solving intricate puzzles and storylines. Also developed games for the IBM PCjr, the Tandy 1000, the Amiga, the Apple II and the Sega Master System. But, you know, game design is for men.

Stephanie Kwolek was hired due to the WW2 shortage of men to be a chemist at DuPoint and invented poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide. That’s Kevlar. She got her company’s medal of outstanding achievement and has to this day been the only female employee to do so, which probably says more about DuPoint than her, if you think about it. You’d think after a woman invented fucking kevlar her employers might lighten the fuck up a little about sexism, but nah. Oh, she also didn’t profit off of it, the patent went to DuPoint, who went on to make several billion dollars.  Dr Kwolk went on to file  somewhere between 17 and 28 patents for her other inventions.
