Why vegans should use honey instead of agave nectar

Okay, so I might get a lot of hate for this, I might not. I don’t particularly care either way, as long as word gets out about this, because it’s extremely important to me.

As I’m sure most people know by now, bees are disappearing at alarming rates. Simply put, our entire species could not survive without them. This is due to a syndrome called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).

Many vegans opt to use agave nectar instead of honey, because agave nectar is plant based. But harvesting of agave nectar is threatening the existence of two other endangered species: Mexican long-nosed bats (who live strictly off of nectars - primarily agave nectar) and the Jaguarundi (a solitary feline who basically looks like a love child between a jungle cat and a ferret.) Approximately 113,126 acres of these animals’ habitat were destroyed from 1991 to 2000, and more has been destroyed since.

On the other hand, beekeepers are essential to increasing bee populations. They monitor the bees’ health and help protect them from dangerous parasites and pesticides that are suspected to cause CCD. In addition, well-kept bees never need to use the amount of honey they produce; Honey is made by the bees to consume only when there is not enough food for them outside the hive. In the care of a good beekeeper, this will only happen during the winter months, and the keeper will leave enough honey for the bees to thrive until it’s spring again.

It’s best to buy local, organic honey if at all possible. Local beekeepers will not use dangerous factory-farming methods, and it helps maintain your local bee population! If you want to help bees in a more active way than buying local honey, you can plant a bee garden or even become a small-scale beekeeper! (I don’t have a link for this, it’s best to check out local resources. Maybe even ask the person selling honey at your farmer’s market!)

This is great info that I never knew about!!

I haven’t seen a lot of posts that shed some positivity for non-binary Muslims who wear the hijab – I personally sometimes feel it’s frustrating that people see hijabi non-binary people as “female” just because the hijab is an obligation for women. My hijab does not define my gender; only my obligation to my God and my religion!

Shoutout to all non-binary hijabi Muslims out there; you are valid and Allah loves you, insya-Allah!

JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. —A boulder in North Carolina covered with mysterious drawings that predate the Cherokee Indians in the area has been vandalized, and on Tuesday investigators released surveillance images in the case.

The Judaculla Rock is deep in the mountains of Jackson County, near Sylva. Archaeologists believe the strange, and as yet undeciphered, carvings on the stone may be 2,000 to 3,000 years old.  The relic has been interpreted to represent everything from a peace treaty to ancient religious symbols to the key to a secret language.

Over the years, paranormal activity has been reported around the stone. The boulder contains more petroglyphs than any other known boulder east of the Mississippi River, about 1,548 motifs.

The Cherokee believe Judaculla, “Master of the Game,” a giant from the land of dead spirits in the West, visited them as a helper before returning to the West. Read more.

This makes me livid. I hope my ancestors torment his dreams.

This is exactly what I was talking about the other day.

I hope your ancestors roast him alive

I would really appreciate it if you could all spread the word. There is a picture of the car he was driving on the site that the link leads to, and you can probably find pics of the actual graffiti pretty easily by now too.

Infuriating!

What a fucking turd.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, dude, but as a general rule, women don’t pretend to virulently hate men they’re secretly in love with as some sort of elaborate courtship ritual. That’s a trope we made up to justify why the male protagonist always gets the girl in the end even when it’s starkly at odds with prior characterisation. In real life, if she acts like she thinks you’re a creep, it’s because she thinks you’re a creep!

GROSS THINGS U SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CHEST BINDING IN SUMMER

transbutts:

elijahelegia:

you can find fashion advice on how to make things more visually manageable and more comfortable, but for bigger guys some of those tips don’t apply and some issues will come up anyway. here’s some stuff I could’ve stood to know last year.

  • if you feel the need to layer or wear something thick, sleeveless hoodies exist. they can save you a bit of heat.
  • take off layers when you can. wash carefully in the folds of your skin, dab moisture away occasionally during the day, and wash your binders OFTEN.
  • fungal infections: for bigger guys, these can happen between and under breasts. if you notice a vinegary smell when you unbind, that’s what that is. afaik there’s no massive health risk from this kind of thing on your skin, but still try to keep those areas dry and clean.
  • you might get some pimples on your chest, which is fine.
  • you might also get sebaceous cysts. LEAVE THEM ALONE. do not try to pop them yourself, it increases risk of infection. they’ll probably go away on their own; if one becomes inflamed, see a doctor.
  • in the heat, your binder will stick to your skin more and the shoulder straps will dig into your skin. don’t wait until you’re bleeding - if it feels raw at all, pad your straps. you can get bra strap pads online, or just make your own with whatever you have handy.
  • lastly: drink a lot of water. you’re wearing layers, and binders are skintight. you will sweat more.

I know everything is gross + miserable but hang in there and take care of yourself.

Summer is around the corner! Please remember all these safe binding tips. Stay hydrated and don’t over exert yourself. Your identity is important, but so is your health/well-being.
