mum: i don’t know how you do the things you do. if there’s a problem you just teach yourself how to fix it, and fix it. i never had that.

me: after decades of dad telling me that i can’t do things honestly 99% of my insisting on doing shit myself without his help and just working until it’s fixed is pure unadulterated spite

mum: next time he tells you you can’t do something like mow the lawn just look him square in the eye and say, “what do you think i’m going to do, set the mower on fire? only an idiot would do that” and watch his face

me: ???

mum: oh man there’s a photo you gotta see

me: holy shit was that taken in the 80s?

mum: yep

me: is he trying to put out a petrol fire with water?

mum: yep

me: this is magnificent

mum: yep

me: honestly this whole thing is making me so fucking happy but my favorite part is that you literally stopped to go and get the camera and take a picture

mum: i just knew i’d need it one day

here’s a thought

let’s tell young boys that they are brimming with kindness and imagination and nobility. point out their gentleness, their fierce joy and limitless capacity to love everyone and everything. tell them they are princes in a kingdom of wonders and beauty and thoughtfulness and the warmth of their own hearts. take them to museums and symphonies and forests to make tree forts in. raise them to empathize, innovate and do good things. with confidence and humility.

Consider: No one should starve.

No matter what their job is.

No matter if they have a job.

No matter if they are drug free.

No matter if they have a clean criminal record.

No matter if they went to college.

No matter if they finished high school.

No. One. Should. Starve.

Shout out to the people living with an STD/STI

You are not gross or a slut or unloveable. You are beautiful, strong, valid and very much loved.

Stop the fucking stigma! 👊🏻

This is so important for people to hear.

It’s 2016, basically all STI/STDs are either treatable or manageable. However, I’ve seen too many people traumatized by their diagnosis, often internalizing a lot of shame and self loathing in silence, because of the way these viruses and bacterias have been stigmatized. If you are someone living with an STI, know you are not defined by it, you are as sexy and wonderful as you’ve ever been. Moreover, you are not only capable of a loving relationship, but you are deserving of one. As for those who are negative, do the decent thing now and educate yourself about STI/STDs so you (1) don’t perpetuate the same old ignorant stigmas and (2) you are in a better position to prevent their transmission in the future.

Why you should pay attention to yet another instance of whitewashing– even if someone like Tilda Swinton says it’s totally okay

Because even if Swinton isn’t in yellowface, that doesn’t mean the role couldn’t have gone to an actually Asian character. Unfortunately, the damage is pretty bad.
