i cant believe the biggest hurdle straight cis white men face in their lives is having to think before they speak bc other people might call them “insensitive” and theyre so upset abt this that they write long thinkpieces in respected national magazines about it

“The choice not to marry isn’t necessarily a conscious rejection of marriage. It is the ability to live singly if an appealing marriage option doesn’t come along”

Single By Choice: Why Fewer American Women Are Married Than Ever Before

I see this as a consequence of “girl power.”

We spent a generation telling girls they can do anything they dream of, but never at any point did anyone think to tell boys that they have to meet girls halfway.

The result is we have a generation of men who continue to believe they are entitled to all the marital, social, economic and political privileges their 1940’s counterparts had, and a generation of women who know they deserve true partnership and refuse to settle for table scraps.

Men love to blame women who who are treated poorly by men by saying it’s women’s fault for having low standards.

Well here we have statistical proof of what happens when women raise their standards.

Men don’t meet them.

It’s better to not settle for bad behavior and be alone, thus changing the dating economy, than it is to tolerate garbage.

Beyond the obvious beauty and grace of our First Lady, one must consider the historic importance of this photo. Our history books sweep under the rug the fact that the White House was built by African American slaves. For the next 150 years the majority of the serving staff of the so called “people’s house” were African American. In 1901 Booker T. Washington was the first African American to be received there as a guest by Theodore Roosevelt, to the horror of Washington society. They are all at last vindicated in our first African American first family. Note…It is my humble opinion that no matter what family should occupy the White House after January 2017, and the following generations for that matter, they will never equal the style, debonair, and class as that of the Obamas.

What you need to know about Obama’s new letter of guidance for transgender students.

apscores:

phoenixcollective:

  • the administration has determined that the designation of “sex” in Title IX protections also includes gender identity, which means that if public schools don’t comply with these protections, they lose federal funding
  • transgender students are only required to have their parent or guardian contact the school district to notify them that their identity differs from what is previously on record
  • these students do not need to provide a medical diagnosis, identification documents, or any other information regarding their transition
  • transgender students must be accommodated even when it makes others students uncomfortable
  • transgender students can be offered the use of single stall restrooms, but if other students are not required to use them, then they aren’t required, either, and specifically mentions that if a student is uncomfortable sharing a restroom with a transgender person they can be offered a single stall restroom
  • these protections also cover correct pronoun use as well, along with other guidelines

if you live in north carolina this is extremely relevant to you because it virtually overrides house bill 2 for transgender students.

thank you so much for this, president obama.
