Allium giganteum is in the family Alliaceae. Commonly known as giant onion, it is native to southern Asia. While not used for culinary purposes, this species is considered one of the largest ornamental onions, growing up to 4 feet tall and produces a large globe of flowers. These flowers can come in a variety of colors, but most common are shades of pinks and purples. The flowers, while being a fabulous display in the garden, also attract many pollinators, such as butterflies and bees.
