yabookers: Yes, certainly.
The UK has just held a referendum (definition:
a general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a direct decision) on the UK’s membership in the European Union. Unfortunately, LEAVE won 52% of the vote, which means that the Government is now compelled to leave the European Union.
As the results came in, the value of the £ dropped to the lowest levels since the mid-80s, Northern Ireland is now considering joining with the Republic of Ireland and Scotland is considering another referendum on independence from the UK because they feel that England does not support their economic interests and they wish to remain in the EU, our economy crashed and we are officially a poorer nation and we lost £350 BILLION. David Cameron, our Prime Minister, has resigned (probably so he’s not associated with the massive fucking failure of the future UK) - he’s not the best choice but we could get someone MUCH MUCH worse, like Boris Johnson, who led the racist and xenophobic campaign to leave the EU (which showed how fucking racist and xenophobic the UK is, and how far right we’ve become). We’re hoping for a new general election, but that is no guarantee and instead could be voted from within the Conservative party.
The LEAVE campaign was based on several big, farcical claims (the reasons why people voted) such as an extra £350 million for the NHS (the amount that was paid into the EU), and restrictions on immigration (because we won’t have open borders with the EU), but now these two claims have now been RETRACTED now that the LEAVE campaign have won.
Also, it appears the older generation made up the most of the voter turnout, (age 18-25 only had a 25% voter turnout, where as age 65+ had a 61% voter turnout) and they voted OUT. This means that they’ve made a decision for the younger generation who will have to live with the consequences for a long long time.
So basically, we’re screwed.
