tbh fuck anyone who says a single bad thing about libraries
Not content I normally reblog but libraries are super important and our world would be diminished without them.
Reblog if you’re definitely not straight
It’s a useful call to arms that everyone who is #BernieOrBust needs to hear and think about.
I’ve made it really clear that Bernie Sanders is who I wanted for my president, and I did what I could to make that happen … but he didn’t get the nomination, and now my realistic choice is between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
I think Michael Moore is right about Hillary not exciting young people the way President Obama did and does. It’s now our job to help everyone who is upset and disappointed and thinking about staying home to realize that we’re going to need every single vote we can get to defeat and utterly demolish and humiliate Donald Trump and everything he stands for.
I don’t like that Clinton is a warmonger. I don’t like that she’s too close to Wall Street. I don’t like that she and her campaign were condescending and dismissive of Millennials during the primaries.
But none of that changes the reality we are facing: it’s Clinton or Trump. I understand that younger voters don’t remember the 2000 election when SCOTUS installed Bush, and I understand that younger voters who were in elementary school during his disastrous presidency were effectively insulated from it because they were kids. I was *exactly* that kid in 2000 when I voted for Nader, because Bush was an asshole and Gore was a terrible candidate.
But if I could get my vote back now, I’d build the time machine with my own hands. Think of the millions of people who have died because of Bush. Think of the destruction of our climate that is now a total crisis, because Bush and his administration did nothing to address it. Think of how much horrible debt college students have, because Bush put people who just wanted to take their money away from them into positions of power. Think about the militarization of our police, which began under Bush.
President Obama did everything he could to roll back the damage Bush and Cheney did to our country and the world, and we aren’t even halfway to where we need to be. I don’t know how much President Clinton will work to continue rolling it back, but even if she keeps it in the same place, that’s better for our country and the world than what will happen under a President Trump.
If you, like me, wanted Bernie Sanders to be our president, if you, like me, believe in his revolution, if you, like me, believe that we have to make America work for the 99%, then your choice in this election is Hillary Clinton.
She’s not perfect. She’s not my first choice, or even in my top five choices. But she is the choice I have if I want to protect my country and my children from Donald Trump.
So that’s why, even though I still Feel the Bern, I’m With Her.
Beautifully said.
ugh… i hate how true this is
Just in case you missed the link in my other post. As someone who has studied Holocaust Literature and who has done a lot of reading on 1935-45 Germany, I feel I am somewhat qualified to point out neo-Nazism when I see it. But if you don’t want to take my word for it, how about the word of Anne Frank’s stepsister, who survived a Nazi death camp, and knows–from first-hand experience–more than a little something about what a Nazi looks and sounds like.
Honestly, I hold Trump supporters in much, much lower regard than I do Hitler’s supporters leading up to, and during, WWII. Why? Because most of Hitler’s supporters had no idea what atrocities his ideology and rhetoric would lead to. Most were just average people who would never dream that their country could ever commit true evil. Very few people not directly involved with the death camps even knew they existed, much less what went on in them. When shown footage of death camps being liberated, hardened front line German soldiers wept openly, or threw up. Because they truly and honestly had no idea.
Trump’s supporters–including every Republican who speaks in his favor, who voted for him in the primaries, or who will vote for him in the general election–do not have that excuse. They cannot pretend to be unaware of where this is headed; all they have to do is look at recent history to see exactly what happened last time someone with Trump’s ideology rose to power over a nation.
And if they refuse to look, if they squeeze their eyes shut and turn away from all the evidence laid out before them, even resisting when those who know history tell them, “Look at this source,” well…
No one puts that much effort into refusing to see unless they already know what they will find, and want to avoid the responsibility that comes with that knowledge. And when you work that hard to avoid looking, you don’t get to claim unwitting ignorance.
No, Trump supporters know exactly where this is going. And they are eager to get there.
Reblogging myself because when Republicans start in about how it’s “unfair,” and “just name-calling” to characterize them as neo-Nazis, I think it is important to remember and to point out that in addition to Eva Schloss, numerous other Holocaust survivors and their children are comparing Trump and the modern American GOP to Hitler, and WWII Germany’s Nazi party, as well.
I’ll keep reblogging this and adding to it as long as Trump and his supporters continue to be neo-Nazis. Here’s another interesting article about Trump and his supporters in the American neo-Nazi party, aka the GOP, from the Atlantic.
I’m tired, but if you want, you can scroll back through my “rob gets political” tag, and/or “rob talks about fascism.” Somewhere in there are a couple of reading lists to further acquaint yourself with what fascism actually is, and how the Nazis rose to power in late 1930s Germany, so you can draw your own conclusions.
And again.
This is what a real, qualified OBGYN will tell you about what women feel when they get an abortion
Dr. Willie Parker, who is trained as a gynecologist and OBGYN, is a hero for the pro-choice movement because he’s honest about the undiscussed aspects of getting (or not getting) an abortion. Watch how he gives a consultation.
That last statement about regret is so important, because so many people don’t understand what it is or what causes it. Anti-choicers exploit this by manipulating pregnant people and creating doubt, which only increases the likelihood of regret, no matter what decision the pregnant person makes. You know what is best for you, even if it takes some time to figure it out.
none of your faves are unproblematic. none of your friends or family are unproblematic. you are not unproblematic. there is literally no point during the process of learning about social justice type stuff and unlearning internalized bullshit and dismantling power systems at which you magically become enlightened and unproblematic. it does not exist. there is no tangible finish line, there is only endless, arduous work and it’s hard but it needs to be done.
I need to realize that it’s okay to drop people out of your life that do you no good
