RULES // post 10 random things about yourself and then pass it on to 15 people. Please repost, do not reblog.

1) I have no idea what to put on this list.

2) I love sour food. Lemon pie, you guys. But also pickles and sauerkraut and kimchi and just like vinegar on everything. Mmm

3) Before I was born, my parents used to live in the townhouse complex where I live now. I didn’t know that when I chose this place though.

4) I sleep with a teddy bear. It is a Christmas bear my husband bought me back in 2009.

5) I have a rather intense fear of heights. It includes ferris wheels, sledding hills, and that one part in Avatar. I have a fear of deep water/drowning too. I think it comes from a fear of not being in control.

6) I hate crying. I almost never do it, and when I get the urge, I always try to shut it down. Very unhealthy, I know.

7) I love to sing. I don’t think I’m particularly good (or bad), but it brings me joy.

8) I like to take photos of nature, but I also love sort of bleak industrial stuff? Those photosets don’t get as many likes though.

9) I have been running completely on mobile for months now, but next week hopefully I will have my laptop back. Billy is fixing the screen for me.

10) My perfect breakfast would be a stack of lemon and wild blueberry pancakes with a side of crispy bacon and real maple syrup. Orange juice with the meal, and a mint mocha latte afterward.

Movement builds to #FreeBresha as teen endures jail for killing abusive father

Bresha Meadows, 15, is being held in juvenile detention for fatally shooting her father while he slept. But her family claims Meadows acted to protect them from decades of abuse.

Meadows’s mother called her daughter a “hero” for defending the family, and her aunt also came to her defense, telling the Washington Free Beacon, “They’ve all been through it, and nobody in that county would help that we called, would do anything. She told on him, and nobody would do anything. She did what [she was] supposed to do, and nobody helped her.”

On Friday, an online campaign saw hundreds of tweets and posts with the #FreeBresha hashtag, as supporters shared petitions demanding that Meadows be released from a juvenile detention center in Ohio.

The national anthem and white privilege at the Olympics

When Gymnast Gabby Douglas accepted an Olympic gold medal for the overall team competition, she proudly stood next to her teammates as the national anthem played. She did not, however, put her hand over her heart. People were outraged, accusing Douglas disrespecting the country and her team, and she was made to apologize for the incident on Twitter.

According to U.S. Flag Code, anyone addressing the American flag should put their hand over their heart, but it’s also a pretty unenforceable rule, and plenty of people don’t. For instance, Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, who respectively won gold and silver for shot put last night.

The discrepancy between the treatment of Gabby Douglas and Ryan Crouser is just the latest example of white privilege playing out in the Olympic games. With Douglas, the furious reactions came immediately, and were often paired with comments about how she looked.

Meanwhile, male athletes are rarely criticized for their looks, and the only people speaking about Crouser’s and Kovacs’s national anthem stance are people pointing out the lack of outrage. It’s hard, then, to ignore the only other obvious differences between these three Olympic gold medalists—race and gender.

“Not all cops are bad.” No shit. The cops shown in the photo are good cops, and there are many more like them. So why are you only defending the bad cops?

Didn’t include one of the most egregious cases of all, the time the NYPD had a cop involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital. He was released after a week when the doctors determined he was fine and not ill in any way. He had reported fellow cops for brutality.

The officer’s name is Adrian Schoolcraft and the hospital still billed the family.
