After months of speculation and leaked documents , NASA's long-awaited EM Drive paper has finally been peer-reviewed and published . And it shows that the 'impossible' propulsion system really does appear to work.
Okay so this is one of the WEIRDEST FUCKING THINGS humanity has stumbled upon in science and it gives me a nerd boner that can be seen from Alpha Centauri.
As far as we can tell, this fucking thing generates reactionless thrust. Let that shit sink in: The EM Drive does not require fuel. Only electrical power.
Okay I know I said it already but AS FAR AS WE CAN TELL THIS IS A !!REACTIONLESS!! !!THRUST!! !!DEVICE!! you have no idea just how goddamn amazing that is
mark my words this fucking thing is going to REVOLUTIONIZEthe design of satellites and scientific probes
and just think of the potential it might have if its thrust increases proportionately to the power fed into it
THIS IS FUKCIN HUGE MY DUDES
Reblogging this just to restate how fucking huge this is.
Imagine you blow air into a balloon and tie it off. Then when you untie it, you let the balloon go and it flies all over the place. This is how propulsion works. This is what Newton’s Third Law is based on. That the air is coming out and pushing the balloon forward.
The EM drive is moving forward when the balloon is still tied off at the end.
I heard about this theorized not some time ago and thought it was amazing!
The fact that it’s been thoroughly peer-reviewed and still stands up is nothing short of absolutely astounding.
This device works, and no one is quite sure how or WHY it does. It defies our current understanding of why physics work the way the way they do. Which mean basically means that we need to re-evaluate and refine our laws of physics because we have discovered empirical evidence that we’ve got something wrong. And trying to fix our math to accurately describe the universe is going lead to new discoveries about the fundamental nature of reality. IT’S MIND BLOWING.
Not to mention this device itself, if we can elaborate and expand on it, will change how we do propulsion. This might the next stage of propulsion technology. To the people a few decades in the future, combustion engine propulsion technology will seem as silly, outdated, and quaint as steam propulsion or horse-drawn carriages seem to us.
THE FUTURE APPROACHES.
god I’m such a nerd
This is hugely important stuff.
A lot of reports on this thing talk about how it “breaks the laws of physics,” but this is an inaccurate oversimplification. The reality of it is much more profound. If this thing indeed works, and the results we’ve gotten thus far can’t be explained by some sort of experimental error, it will redefine our understanding of physics. In other words, the laws of physics aren’t being “broken,” we’ve just been wrong about physics the entire time.
so what you’re saying is maybe we get long distance space travel before we go extinct of our own stupidity
*insert excited nerdy babbling here*
There’s still a lot of work to be done to eliminate the possibility of any outside interference or mundane errors, but this is a huge step towards either proving or disproving whether or not it actually works. I’m seeing articles from September suggesting that there are plans to test it in space.
no child should ever have to go through what Diane and her family suffered. but due to the United States’ harsh, complex, and unforgiving immigration system, Diane is not the only one.

Over the weekend, there were a flurry of stories about how Donald Trump and his family are already using the presidency to leverage his overseas businesses as well as his new DC hotel. Well, now there's more. This time in Argentina.
For a number of years, Trump and his Argentine partners have been trying to build a major office building in Buenos Aires. The project has been held up by a series of complications tied to financing, importation of building materials and various permitting requirements.
When Argentine President Mauricio Macri called President-Elect Trump to congratulate him on his election, Trump asked Macri to deal with the permitting issues that are currently holding up the project.
Why aren’t we hearing about this in the American press?
Well, remember, no one knew anything about the visit from Trump’s Indian business partners until it appeared in the Indian press either. It seems like this is likely happening on many fronts. It’s just being hidden from the American press. We only hear about it when it bubbles to the surface in the countries where Trump is pushing his business deals.
people couldn’t be assed to vote against him as president do you think they’re going to bother voting for a magazine?
on one hand, the page does mention it’s for good or for ill, but on the other hand, nothing warms my cold little heart like Donald Trump getting snubbed for Person of the Year in favor of someone he hates.
ffs he’s winning.
Lin Manuel Miranda is on that list. Go make him or Bernie PotY.
^this. Et pour les Français, Marine Le Pen est dans les 40% pour et 60% contre. Ce serait bien de creuser l’écart.
Upside, Trump is not currently winning. Downside, he’s coming second to Julian bloody Assange. Putin is third.
Simone Biles and Lin-Manuel Miranda are currently joint fourth…
Assange and Trump are top at the moment, guys. Let’s get SOMEONE else winning.
News broke Friday morning that Trump had chosen Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general.
Sessions opposes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and has expressed support for a ban on Muslims. Sessions also has a troubling history of racist comments.
Also on Friday, Trump reached a $25 million settlement agreement in a fraud lawsuit involving his failed Trump University venture.
The size of the settlement is a damning indication of the severity of the grievances against Trump University — especially coming from Trump, who has, in the past, mocked business that chose to settle lawsuits, according to the New York Times.
Since the election, reports of acts of hate committed in the name of Trump have surged.
Just last week, swastikas were spray-painted in a park named for Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, along with the words “Go Trump.” Hijab-wearing Muslim women have been attacked and harassed. And the hate isn’t just random and dispersed — it’s also organized.
Protesters continue to gather to speak out against Trump’s appointment of Steve Bannon.
Trump’s selection of Bannon to play a key role in his presidency only stokes the fears of those who are terrified that Breitbart’s brand of hyperbolic and combative racism, sexism, anti-Semitism and transphobia could become national policy.
And the mounting concern about Trump’s business conflicts of interest.
Fears about how Trump will simultaneously manage both his business interests and the interests of the United States have only mounted. Trump will enter office with “unprecedented” conflicts of interest, including an ongoing lawsuit between the Trump Organization and the government over a Trump hotel on government land, his debt to Deutsche Bank and his vested interest in the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Trump’s promises that his business affairs will be managed by his children are also worrying, because several of those children sit on his transition team and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, were recently photographed in a meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. If a recent meeting is any indication, Trump seems to be planning to go on with much of his business as usual.
