Bertolonia is a genus in the family Melastomataceae. Consisting of about 13 species, these plants are native to South America and grow as understory herbs in the jungle. Melastomes are easily recognizable by their distinct leaf venation pattern and beautiful floral displays, making many genera ideal candidates for cultivation! Follow for more plant facts and photos!
MEMORIZE THE PACKAGING SO YOU MAKE SURE YOU NEVER BUY THIS CREAM FOR YOURSELF OR ANYONE YOU LOVE.
This post is about vaginas. My vagina in particular. I get yeast infections pretty regularly, and until recently I was able to afford to see a doctor who could prescribe me fluconazole.
Fluconazole, a drug also known by the brand name Diflucan, is a small pink pill. You take two pills a few days apart from each other to restore balance and harmony to your bountiful folds. I’ve never ever had a bad side effect from taking this pill.
Cut to November 2016. I’m a recent college grad without reliable health care coverage in the process of finding a job. And I’m dealing with a yeast infection. Before I moved out of state, my previous doctor told me about Miconazole. She said it was as effective as the pill and hallelujah, it’s over the counter! I decided to purchase the cream pictured above. This treatment only lasted 3 days, a convenient time frame for my schedule.
The application process was a little messy, and some of the cream came in contact with my vulva and labia. Within 5 minutes every piece of skin that had come in contact with the cream, excluding my hands, was on fire. I wanted to scream it was so painful. I began frantically searching for what I should do online.
I found a whole forum of people on drugs.com who had experienced something similar. These comments saved me, and these were just on the first page. There were 33 pages total, the earliest dated July 2009.
I was writhing in pain at 2AM when I found this forum (which I found by searching “my vagina burn itch hurts after miconazole” on Google). As soon as I read these comments I threw the devil cream directly into the trash and jumped in the shower. I didn’t feel any actual relief until I reached in and scraped the cream out of me. I paid $17 plus tax on this bullshit, but I could have just as easily ripped up my money or paid someone to not hurt me.
The moral of the story is that vaginal health care is is completely fucked up because we don’t have access to an over the counter cure for yeast infections that is safe for our bodies and also YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY THIS CREAM EVER.
He hasn’t even been inaugurated, yet, and he’s already causing a massive diplomatic shitstorm that threatens the security of not just America, but an entire region of the world. I honestly don’t know if it’s worse that he just doesn’t get it, or just doesn’t care. Either way, Trump is not qualified to be president.
Honestly as much as I love the enthusiasm people are showing to beat up Nazis I can’t help but be irked at how people are perpetuating the historical fiction that America was the most vehement opponent of Nazism.
America only opposed the Nazis because Britain did. Britain only did because they viewed national boundaries as of divine import. Churchill liked Hitler until he started invading other countries. Pro-Nazi rallies were held across this nation, including at Madison Square Garden. Hitler directly praised American efforts at state-sponsored eugenics and treatment of Native Americans.
Stop playing Captain America. It really is a fluke of history that the United States sided against the Nazis. This election is not in defiance of American political culture, it is a fulfillment of it.
Same goes for Canada, who had the highest percapita NSDAP membership after Germany until we were literally at war with them and it was illegal.
See, I didn’t know that either.
Erasing history is how you ensure its repetition.
Hmmm yeah though I think it’s also important that the reason why Captain America was more fervently anti-Nazi than American sentiment was at the time of his creation was because he was created by Jewish men.
Since conversion therapy is looming in everyone’s consciousness right now:
This is your regular reminder that ABA, the generally-recommended therapy for autistic children, is literally conversion therapy with an extra dose of “auties aren’t even real people” thrown in for good measure. It was conceived by the same people, from the same research, for the same ends: To brutalize and torture children into a narrow range of “acceptable” behaviour.
And it is considered totally legitimate and valid and even preferred by the overwhelming majority of the medical industry.
Do not leave disabled people out of your activism.
Okay, whoa there. ABA is not conversion therapy. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is based in behaviorism and tries to reduce harmful behaviors (slapping people, banging your head against a wall, things that can injure the child or others) by rewarding desirable behaviors and not rewarding undesirable behaviors. The emphasis is always on positive reinforcement and it does not involve any kind of dangerous punishment. Additionally, ABA involves examining and shaping the environment of the child because behavior is an interaction of the two. It’s tailored to each child and environment individually and involves a therapist spending many hours a week with the child to learn what skills they know and what skills need to be taught to keep you and your loved one safe and well. It also doesn’t aim to “cure” Autism, just to help the family manage and facilitate growth in a safe way. It does not involve electric shock, making the child feel like everything they’re doing is wrong and immoral, trying to get them to change their identity, etc. None of that shit. If that is what your therapist is doing, holy God, report them. Otherwise, this is misinformation.
(TW for abuse and torture in graphic detail at the links)
I’ve seen a lot of ABA apologists say this.
Not one of them has yet justified the continued existence of and their continued silence on the Judge Rotenberg Center. Even its Wikipedia page reads like a horrifying nightmare, but I strongly suggest you check out this survivor’s letter.
The JRC is apparently able to say that it sticks very strictly to an ABA-based program, and routinely satisfy judges, parents, and apparently professionals that this is an accurate and valid statement. I have yet to see anybody who defends ABA speak up or take action against it.
So no. The emphasis is not always on positive punishment (and the JRC isn’t alone in this - there’s at least one ex-ABA professional who talks about the frequent use of aversives at another center right here on tumblr. It does involve dangerous punishment. It is capable of returning your child less safe or less well than when they started - it can even kill your child. It does involve electric shock, making the child feel like everything they’re doing - even subconscious behaviour - is wrong and immoral, it literally tries to get us to change our identities (pop quiz: “person with autism” or “autistic person”?), etc. All of that shit.
And for all you talk about it in sunny terms and insist these things don’t happen, basically nobody allistic gives a crap. Certainly not the ABA supporters, even though they have a vested interest in stopping it.
Because I keep seeing people trying to defend ABA on this post, I thought I’d grab a masterpost about why ABA is inherently abusive.
also. ABA without aversives is still harmful. Because you are still, in the vast majority of cases, training a person to believe that how they naturally are is unacceptable, and that their coping mechanisms are morally wrong. Forcing eye contact is abusive. Using a special interest as a reward, with no access to it unless the child does the neurotypical thing, is abusive.
