Privately owned hotels, motels, etc., can still legally turn you away if you have pets with you. It just happened to Hurricane Harvey evacuees. Please do not go to a hotel trying to demand that they take your pets - You can get turned away, (the police will assist if needed) and you may end up back on the road in the storm. Which is the most dangerous place to be.
There has been a post going around saying that the PETS act means that hotels have to accept your pets… This is FALSE! The PETS act allows FEMA to spend government funds on creating pet friendly evacuation and disaster response plans, to fund pet friendly shelters, to fund veterinary services, and to pay pet fees to hotels that accept pets for displaced families who receive vouchers after a disaster. It has no bearing on private businesses, private businesses are not required to change or amend their pet policies.
Some hotels do, however, voluntarily change their policies during a storm. This will be dependent on each individual hotel owner, (they are usually franchises). So the best thing you can do is call the individual hotel before you go.
To evacuate, you will need to identify pet friendly hotels, shelters, etc.
To find pet friendly hotels, you can use BringFido.com or Booking.com (on Booking, select “Pet Friendly” in the filters).
Please be safe and have a backup plan in place. I hope that cuddling your furry loved ones brings you much comfort.
I’m gonna keep reblogging this through the day.
I was asked to reblog this post to help clarify the misinformation from a popular post that is circulating, which claims that no hotel can turn you away with your pet due to a FEMA ruling from Katrina.
if you’re white. being,,,not straight ,,does not give you a “poc card”. i think a lot of you think it does. like being ,,not straight,,does not mean you can seperate yourself from other white people.
white people. you can reblog this. especially if you’re not straight.
Me, sitting in my house trying to get myself to do shit: So what’s my motivation in this scene?
I want fifteen sweaters. And wool skirts. And really soft, warm, comfy pants. And some of those socks that go up really high. And cute jackets that don’t gap when buttoned.
And everything has pockets. The socks have pockets. Sockets.
And stylish boots that don’t hurt my feet or threaten my ankles. And some nice scarves.
Guys, the first images of Irma’s level of devastation are coming out of Barbuda and it’s heartbreaking. The President of Barbuda says that 90% of the island is uninhabitable, upwards of 60% of the TOTAL population are now homeless because the hurricane destroyed virtually every building and home on the island, and that the estimated damage is valued at no less than $200 million dollars. That’s money a small island like that doesn’t have. They’re saying it’s going to take years to rebuild and Hurricane Jose is right behind Irma on the same path which means they could be hit twice. This is just one of the islands being affected.
Please, show up for the Caribbean like you did for Houston. There is no safety net for any of these islands including mine. They’ll rely entirely on foreign aid. Find local charities or global trustworthy charities (NOT the Red Cross) and make a donation asking them to aid the Caribbean. There’s whole countries being turned into rubble with no financial means to repair their infrastructures. They’re going to need help.
For the hundreds of people replying or in my inbox asking “Why not the Red Cross?!”:
Seriously, guess where I found all of those in two solid minutes of searching? Google. Even better, they didn’t charge me a penny for it.
Stop wanting things to be spoonfed to you. While you waited for someone to link you to sources, you could’ve done it yourself and already donated to people who desperately need it.
Because people are also asking where to donate instead of the Red Cross:
Habitat For Humanity [83% rating on Charity Navigator // Because with islands like Barbuda 90% destroyed and French St. Martin said to be 95% destroyed then people are going to need homes built]
Catholic Relief Services [90% rating on Charity Navigator // For those who would want to donate to a religious organization]
If there is a note or comments section on their donation page please do let them know that you would want your money to go to their Caribbean relief efforts. Houston and Florida have the US government backing them in whatever they will need but these islands will have very little except for these charities to fall back if they have any hope of rebuilding what seems to be entire countries in some cases. For the people who lost everything even a few bucks will go a long way.
For the most part I would suggest staying away from privately launched GoFundMes unless you know the person directly. Ultimately, you just never know where those funds are going to end up and if your money will be used wisely. Sure, the same can be said for charity organizations but at least there is a better shot at possibly helping through them. The five listed above are world known and have been studied by charity oversight organizations. It’s as close to perfect as we’re going to get.
Please donate if you can! [ Here’s ] a list of essentials to donate.
This’ll be queued on repeat for the next few hours.
this may be too controversial for some of yall but not everything by lgbt content creators has to be the absolute pinnacle of representation and gay media is allowed to be just as fucking shitty as straight media can get. gay content creators dont magically make better content just bc they’re gay and they should have the freedom to produce as much hot steaming gay garbage as they want because god fucking knows there’s a lot of hot steaming straight garbage out there
^^ Absolutely 100% agreed!!! LGBT+ content creators have the right to be just as flawed as anyone else. They also have the right to create what they want as much as everyone else! They go through so many obstacles on a daily basis in their respective career fields. They don’t need Tumblr’s ungrateful and impossibly high standards rammed down their throats too.
Tumblr’s desire to seek out the next pure unproblematic uwu symbol of representation puts lgbt+ content creators in a situation where their golden pedastal can become a guillotine in the blink of an eye.
yeah why don’t the stupid homos just accept everything we throw at them
See? This is what I’m talking about here on Tumblr. You all don’t know how to chill. I never said you had to accept everything thrown at you. Everything deserves critique. You can like something and still note their flaws. You can dislike something and still note their good points. But the problem with Tumblr is that the moment something is deemed problematic, it’s over. it’s done. even if it’s created by fellow members of the lgbt+ community. You all damn know how hard it was for them just to get this far and get their content published, created, or even seen because of how unfair the industry is. Ya’ll know that but you vipers will still attack LGBT+ content creators like they’re the devil for not being perfect.
I’ve seen a black gay webcomic creator get nothing but smack from tumblr for having a white main character and his story not being “black” enough for ya’ll. How dare he write what he wants to write instead of dedicating his life to helping all black people 24/7?! I’ve seen a latinx lesbian writer get doxxed because she dared to feature a lesbian couple in her story that had realistic problems in their relationship. It was deemed homophobic by Tumblr for not putting the couple in a completely pure and good light to emphasize how wonderful being gay is 100% of the time. I saw another webcomic creator who put lesbians, blacks, gays, bisexuals, pansexuals, latinx, and many other under represented people in their comic, but they didn’t have any notable trans character representation so they were suddenly “canceled” by tumblr. Like tumblr’s standards are so high. Here, you gotta got go 100% or don’t do anything at all. And in a society where LGBT+ creators don’t have much in the first place, tumblr makes them scared to even try less they face your “righteous wrath”, causing even less LGBT+ content to be created.
What I’m trying to say is, I get it, it can be discouraging when what you’re specifically looking for isn’t in the content you’re digesting. But how about ya’ll
1) give lgbt+ content creators some slack because it was hard enough getting here anyways
2) if they did something problematic, you can explain it to them like actual civlized people instead of…ya know..being tumblr and literally ruining their lives
3) rethink your priorities and consider that maybe actual living breathing LGBT+ creators are more important than LGBT+ characters????
