And it’s shitty that I was considered mature and praised for those things, and all of those characteristics have translated into me being an immature, “bad adult.”
Now I
Have difficulty making a keeping friends
Can’t act without permission/am dependent on others for direction
Am terrible at communicating
Have no agency/personal compass
It’s a really difficult thing for people who were abused as children to grapple with.
What made us good children make us bad adults.
The former employee of Trinity Services Group said potatoes had "black and green mold all over them." A prison food worker said he was fired last week after he refused to serve rotten potatoes to inmates at a Michigan correctional facility. “It was the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in my life,” said Steve Pine, 48, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich
Potatoes produce Solanine as a defense mechanism. Rotten potatoes can be an abundant source of solanine. Solanine is poisonous.
Ingesting small amounts can cause nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, burning of the throat, cardiac dysrhythmia, nightmares, headache, dizziness, itching, eczema, thyroid problems, inflammation and pain in the joints. Moderate amounts can cause hallucinations, loss of sensation, paralysis, fever, jaundice, dilated pupils, hypothermia, and death.
Back in the 90s, there was a company called VitaPro that made pig feed. Unfortunately for this company, one of their products was deemed ‘unsafe’ to use as pig feed, so they found a way to sell it to the Texas prison system instead. TDCJ agreed to buy the hazardous pig feed and serve to to inmates for a kickback on the product sold. A win-win for the two companies, VitaPro got to sell what was otherwise a worthless product, while TDCJ officials got ‘meat’ for the inmates at a discount and got to pad their own pockets with the kickbacks, saving the state money and making themselves rich.
If someone is in prison, they are paying for their crime. To feed them rotten food and treat them as less than human reflects terribly on everyone as a society. If we treated prison more for rehabilitation than punishment, we would benefit.
When is the US going to realize that its prison system is a giant crime factory?
a note for everyone asking about what the plants on my header are (if @los-plantalones doesnt care if i add onto their very exciting and amazing post), this is another pic: these plants are called Lithops, and are a succulent family native to Nigeria. Lithops have many different sizes, shapes, and colors, but all share the features that they’ve evolved to look like rocks, which unfortunately makes them look like butts. (side note: they were discovered by a botanist visiting nigeria in the 1850s when he saw a weird rock, picked it up, and realized it was actually a plant lol)
once every year or two, they shed their outer butt layer to reveal a new butt layer underneath, because each of the butt cheeks are one leaf structure (one butt=one leaf); a plant can grow more leaves, but usually only grows them in sets of two. example of shedding:
the best part. the best part about these plants.
they usually bloom ONCE per leaf pair every few years and when it comes up it comes up through the buttcheeks. they can be lots of different colors too, anything ranging from purples to whites and (in this case) yellows!
all pics are from this site. they also have a huge database where u can look at all the different butts and butt varieties as well as care instructions!!! 10/10 would recommend
that aside, this is 200% an amazing lithops butt flower picture and she is very happy, 10/10 amazing plant footage thank u @los-plantalones
recovery is not ‘soon i will be untouched, perfect, and in a permanent state of bliss. i will be healed and all will be well, forever.’
recovery is ‘i will continue to survive despite what happens, i will find ways to cope instead of continually tearing myself down. i will recover and will see myself in a light that i never thought was possible.’
Reminded of this excerpt from Getting Through the Day: Strategies for Adults Hurt as Children by Nancy J. Napier: “It also helps to remember that healing occurs in a spiral. We swing around again and again to the same old issues, but at different turns of the spiral. Each time we confront a similar feeling or reaction we have yet another opportunity to learn and to heal. Each time, we bring with us whatever new understanding we have gained since the last time we cycled through this particular difficulty.”
hey, so because of Irma i had to pay for a hotel room for my mom and siblings while i just try to ride it out at home. i should only have to pay for one night, but there might be some extra expenses with prices being jacked up, and i don’t get paid for another week, and i really don’t want to get overdrafted…
if y'all could help me out a bit that’d be great, and i’m sorry to have to ask :(
