I’m reading a book on ancient textiles and this jumped out at me:
“In her poem, Inanna and Ebih, dating to the Akkadian period, c. 2300 BC, Enheduanna, daughter of Sargon, King of Akkad, described Inanna (translated variously) as “clad in terror” or with “terror folds in her robes.”
I wonder what color that is.
I mean, my semi-professional guess would be “blood of her enemies”.
Thank you for being alive today. Thank you for continuing to try. Thank you for breathing the same air I do, and I hope you have wonderful dreams when you sleep because you deserve them.
Also, do what you can to defeat this bill. Because it will shore up restrictive immigration bills that discriminate based on English literacy. And to defend oppressive policies that will allow Federal agencies to discriminate in their duties serving people who don’t speak English as well as their more-privileged fellow citizens.
If you understand language acquisition at all, you’ll understand why designating a national language in the US is unnecessary and racist, with a good underpinning of classism, as well. That’s not even considering the history; just from a language standpoint it hasn’t a leg to stand on.
