Just so we’re clear.

Note: Street harassment is an assertion of power in many ways, not just men against women. It’s also about straight people wielding power over queer people, cis people wielding power over trans and gender non-conforming people, thin people over fat people, and more. But in the case of men harassing women, THIS is what that shit is about – not sex.

IMPORTANT !!!!

there really is a tumblr discourse rhetoric hole that people, and disturbingly a large amount of very young people, jump down into. a place where people cease to be real people, concepts cease to have real life applications, and reality itself warps away into a mess of rhetoric and useless words thrown around for no particular reason other than it equates to status in a virtual reality to do this.

internet activism and social justice are good, necessary things; but the moment that you stop taking into consideration the offline effects and applications of your speech and behavior, when you stop valuing the off-tumblr goals for that activism, when you stop seeing things and people as real but as only concepts or tools in a debate or rhetoric, your activism not only ceases to be meaningful; it becomes a dangerous thing in itself.

activism is not a performance. it’s not a manipulation of words to see how many people you can get to agree with you and/or applaud you. it is a practical effort for positive change. if you can’t remember that, you’re not doing activism.

A CROW TRIED TO GO IN OUR CLASSROOM AND HE HAD A PEN

yes hello i am here to learn geometries

That crow is more prepared than some of my students.

You’ve all just like, completely skipped over the possibility that this crow has seen people using pens in this room, found one, and is trying to return it. There’s been videos of crows picking up sweet wrappers and stuff and placing them in bins after seeing humans put their litter in bins. I really do believe that this crow is trying to return the pen and that is ADORABLE AS HELL.

THEY ARE SO SMART I LOVE THEM

Crows are thought to be self aware by some scientists. Its perfectly possible the crow wants to return the pen to humans. Knowing it belongs to humans.

Corvids. Who KNOWS. :)

Another cool crow deal: Once, when trying to assess if crows could reason and use tools, scientists had two crows who didn’t know each other each take a wire from a table (one was hooked, one was straight) and try to grab meat from a bottle with it. The crows could see each other, though they had separate bottles. Only the straight wire worked for this, so they hypothesized that if crows could reason, the second trial would have the two crows fighting over the straight wire. The second trial started and, to the surprise of the scientists, the two crows both went for the bent wire, one held it down and the other unbent it. They both got meat out of their bottles. They came to a peaceful solution without verbal communication. Crows are probably smarter than we are.

they still shit all over the place and eat garbage

ok but so do we

Men are using a powerful hashtag to fight back against emotional abuse

According to NCADV, 4 in 10 people have experienced some kind of coercive control from an intimate partner. Sadly, #MaybeSheDoesntHitYou is raising much-needed awareness for a widespread problem.

All right pals. I know people are going to roll their eyes at this and see it as an MRA thing, but this really isn’t about undermining abuse suffered by women. It’s about acknowledging that men can be abused, because people of all genders are capable of being abusive and some men have abusive partners. It’s about emotional abuse, which is notoriously hard to speak up about, affecting men, a group who are notoriously loath to speak up about being in an abusive relationship. So this is #important honestly.
Emotional abuse is serious and real and can happen to anyone. It can be perpetuated by people of ALL genders, regardless of wider social dynamics, and absolutely no one deserves to go through it.
I’d have preferred the hashtag not to be about straight relationships and to acknowledge that abuse can be perpetuated by people of all genders, but nonetheless, this is really important.

abuse is abuse regardless of gender identity

Also, keep in mind that real feminism is geared toward making things better for everyone, which includes eliminating the toxic masculinity that makes men afraid to come forward when they’re being abused (because abuse ‘only happens to women and weak men’), and often leads to them not being taken seriously (see above parentheses) when they do come forward.

This sounds like the set up of a gay rom-com, or an “imagine your OTP” AU…
