Pelargonium / peltatum 08>2017 Géranium-lierre Roi des Balcons
You can eat most of the flowers of Pelargonium and use the leaves to parfum dishes and salads. There are all kind of aromas available - from Lemon/orange to chocolate and cinnamon.
One thing I will never understand is why Americans are so hyped about Halloween.
SAME???? WHAT IS IT ABOUT HALLOWEEN?????
I think it’s probably a combination of:
positive childhood memories
excuse to eat a lot of candy
excuse to dress up in crazy outfits
traditions that have built up positive connotations like carving silly pumpkins and watching certain movies like Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas or Rocky Horror Picture Show
and the fun of reveling in the macabre and generally “dark” stuff. Yes, you can do that all year, but Halloween in special. Christmas has become the season of cheer, generosity and gift giving–sure, you can do those things at other times, but this is a celebration of those things. In the same way, Halloween is a celebration of all things dark and spooky and horrifying.
It’s also one of the few “holidays” with an emphases on fun, without any real family or romantic obligations. Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter can be great, but they can also be really stressful for people who have difficult or complex relationships with their families. Valentines Day and New Years have become, “Oh no! I need to get a date for that day or else I’m a loser!”
Halloween? Do whatever the fuck you want. Dress in a sexy costume, stay out all night, eat a bunch of stuff that isn’t good for you, or just have a 10 hour scary movie marathon with your friends. Cover your house with cobwebs and bats and fake blood and anything else that would probably get you the side-eye from your neighbors the rest of the year.
You know how the Addams Family are into all of this creepy and weird stuff but are so damn happy about it? Halloween is basically a holiday inspired by and dedicated to them, where we all take a little time to revel in their way of life and learn from their example. So that, like with Christmas, we’re reminded to keep that spirit of fun and non-conformity alive all year.
