Schools yik yak was on point today👌👌
I would gladly pay more in taxes if every child in the public school system was guaranteed a healthy lunch.
Yesterday my mom, my 5 year old nephew and i were hanging out, and my mom kept constantly using female pronouns and calling me by my birth-name.
finally my nephew interrupted her to say,
“He wants to be called Ben. He’s a boy now. You can’t call him a girl if he’s a boy.”and right after that, she started using my pronouns and name correctly. i guess it kind of hits you hard when a 5 year old child calls you out, cause anytime i’d try to correct her she’d keep making the excuse, “It’s hard, I’m trying.”
i am so proud of my nephew, i shit you not.
YES! on the fourth of July, my 8 year old cousin followed me around and everytime someone called me by my birth name, she whispered “Ben” behind me.
When I went home for my birthday this past week, my parents were using the right name/calling me Ben but using the wrong pronouns. When I gently reminded them of my pronouns, my step dad was incredibly defensive and yelled at me and said not to bring it up. The next day, (my actual birthday), I was alone with my 14 year old brother. I told him I was bummed, told him the story and asked if he wouldn’t mind trying to use the correct pronouns around our family to lead by example/encourage them. He was like yeah no problem dude! Layer that night, my mom used the wrong pronouns and my brother responded with “yeah, I think he would like that.” And looked at me and smiled and my mom responded using the correct pronouns.
This trickle down education bullshit clearly does not work. Younger kids are so eager to understand and accept things, and it makes so much more sense for kids to be taught and go on to educate their parents.
zero light plants
THIS IS SUCH A SPECIFIC AND SUPER NECESSARY POST.
OF THE ABOVE PLANTS, ONLY THE FOLLOWING ARE PET-SAFE:
- Bromeliad
- Kentia Palm
- Spider Plant
Even if your dog or cat has never shown any interest in chewing on your house plants before, please only keep cat- or dog-safe plants. You never know when they might get curious.
Reblogging for pet safety.
concept: a heterosexual man and a heterosexual woman. they are friends. neither is secretly in love with the other. They spend time together, just the two of them, and don’t feel the need to hook up. Their spouses don’t worry about them.
gasps heard from every tv station
Did I just imagine that we used to be able to do three party chats on here? Like I could swear it was a thing but now I can’t get it to work. Tumblr why are you like this.
Icelandic Cats
There is no specifically recognized breed (according to major cat registries), but cats are particularly popular pets in Iceland, where there are 14 different ways of saying “cat.” Especially in Reykjavik, where dogs were banned from 1924 to 1984. In 1984 the ban on dogs was partially lifted, allowing people to apply for an exception from the ban. These exceptions became progressively more liberal, until 2006, when the ban was finally lifted completely. With no dogs, cats ruled! Anyone visiting Reykjavík has noted that the city is full of cats. There are no official figures on the number of cats in Reykjavík, but the Icelandic Cat Protection Society, which operates a cat shelter, has estimated that there might be as many as 20,000 cats in the capital region or one cat for every ten people.
Librarians are not shushing people, and libraries are no longer only silent cathedrals for solo reading. (They still have reading rooms—don’t worry.) Instead, these great pieces of civic architecture are being repurposed: They’re places that offer classes in computer skills and thousands of other subjects, provide internet access to millions of Americans who can’t afford it, and host innumerable neighborhood meetings.
Libraries these days are providing meals to kids and adults through local food banks, working with local immigrant agencies, offering homework help, and loaning out an amazing array of things, from musical instruments to microscopes. (Yes: the Library of Things.) What they’re up to is dazzling. And in 2013, 94 percent of Americans said that having a public library improves the quality of life in a community. As America gets older and more unequal, its people need new forms of education to thrive—and libraries are ground zero for every public value the country cares about.
”Actually, on the subject of age, let me throw a quick little PSA your way. Kids don’t lie to adults about your age on the internet. Please. Let adults live in their comfort zones. I know we often hear it the other way around, which is also not okay, but last night I found out a girl I’d been speaking to who said she was mid twenties was actually sixteen. It just… it makes me feel uncomfortable. Please respect adults and what they want. Please don’t lie so that you can engage with them. It’s not cool. That’s all. Thanks.
#also it makes it difficult for adults to be responsible #an adult is going to talk differently to another adult than they are to a kid or teenager #just don’t lie to people????
THIS. IS. IMPORTANT.
