trump is now 100% sure he’s going to put an end to DACA, a program that helped over 800,000 immigrants stay here legally and get educations…. let that sink in ya’ll. the leader of a country essentially wants to get rid of and ruin the lives of 800,000 people. that means homes are going to be lost, businesses are going to be lost, jobs are going to be lost, and educations are going to be lost. kids who don’t even speak their parent’s native tongue are going to be forced back into a country they know absolutely nothing about.
it is very dictator-like and frightening for a leader of the so called “free world” wants to deport 800,000 people. this is ethnic cleansing at its finest and it’s up to us to make sure this doesn’t go through. hundreds of thousands of immigrant lives and futures are on the line and there IS a way to help.
simply text RESIST to the number 50409 and a bot will send a fax to your senators. tell them why they should #DefendDACA and the Dreamers. It’s free, easy, and takes 2-10 minutes depending on how long you want your message to be.
we have 6 months to convince government officials like hell to make sure they don’t allow this decision to happen. DACA is a program america needs. DO NOT LET THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION GET AWAY WITH THIS FORM OF ETHNIC CLEANSING.
yall this is real quick and easy! I did it this morning!
you can fax the president and idk if it’ll give him my info or anything but wow imagine if you had the perfect shit to say
Claiming to have received consent, whether it is based in any truth or not, betrays a policing culture that refuses to recognize its own outsized power over those it alleges to protect and serve. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is currently investigating the case to determine whether the claim of consent is credible under law, but the fact that consent seems to be on offer as a defense at all speaks to how the police themselves view rape — a dynamic that needs immediate redress.
The accusations against Hall and Martins detail brutal rape in no uncertain terms. The young woman, who goes by the name “Anna Chambers” on social media but is withholding her legal name, says that on September 15, she and two male friends were driving near Brighton Beach. They were pulled over by the undercover detectives for being in a park after closing time, and their car was searched. The police found drugs in a bag next to Chambers; one friend was also found with pills on his person. The cops handcuffed only Chambers and drove her away in an unmarked van.
The teen alleges that the police drove to a nearby Chipotle parking lot and then, while she remained handcuffed, forced her to perform oral sex on them. One officer, she said, then raped her before leaving her on a street corner near the 60th Precinct. According to her attorney, she went to a hospital that night and was given a rape kit. Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that DNA found on Chambers matched the two officers, a fact confirmed by the teen’s attorney.
“I’m so hurt by this situation,” Chambers told me via Twitter direct message, before referring me to her lawyer. David said, “She’s devastated, She doesn’t leave home, she’s extremely depressed, and has been victimized again by these cops saying it was consensual.” He added, “This was a kidnapping, and this was rape.”
An NYPD spokesperson said on Wednesday that both officers have been suspended and that the Internal Affairs Bureau is working with the district attorney in the ongoing investigation. The New York Post reported Wednesday evening that a grand jury has been convened to hear evidence against the two officers. The detectives “should have been arrested that night,” said David.
Gay aphobes: “Aces/aros can’t be in the community! Resource stealing might happen!”
Bi people: “So are you going to address the fact that gay people take the resources meant for us and leave us with the scraps?”
Gay aphobes: “No.”
Bi people: “But-”
Gay aphobes: “Quiet down before I start bombarding you with biphobia again!”
Wait are people actually getting mad about this post? Bi organizations got
$0 out of $97,189,139 for LGBT+ funding but if we dare speak out about it then we’re homophobic?
Bisexuals got less than 1% of LGBTQ grant dollars despite making up about half of the LGBT+ community. Also both gay men and lesbians had an increase in funding
(good thing!) while funding for bisexuals decreased (bad thing!). Which is appalling considering they were already getting less than 1% to begin with.
Bi people tend to fare worse than gay people in issues such as poverty, coming out, health, mental illness, violence, abuse, suicide etc. These statistics are constantly used to get more funding for LGBT+ organizations but then barely any of it goes towards bisexuals. Which is y’know stealing resources.
This weeks strip is a sensitive one, because I know it will cause a few people to probably get a little upset. Heidi and I HAVE been invited to a few of these Gender Reveal Parties. We’ve always declined, but never offered up any reasons why, per say. But today’s strip has been a punched up version of a very real conversation we have each time it happens.
As a transgender woman, I have a real issue with the idea of Gender Reveal Parties. My own existence kinda negates the real impact of saying “It’s a GIRL/BOY!” when me just being there would be like holding a sign that says “Well, you think that NOW…”
And I have to question to morality of taking that “reveal” as the guide by which you will try and essentially indoctrinate a child in a gender that you won’t REALLY know for a few years at least is correct. I KNOW that it fucked ME up. Just my two cents, for what they are worth.
I AM sorry to anyone that finds this strip or my comments here uncomfortable. But being asked to gender reveal parties makes ME really uncomfortable, and I guess it’s better if that’s out there.
tbh how much making fun of older women who still have fandom interests is steeped in misogyny becomes patently obvious when you compare that to the way male geeks are treated
i mean, it’s completely socially accepted for middle-aged men to love the nerdy shit they cared about as children (star wars, comics, star trek, lord of the rings, etc) and dedicate time and money to appreciating it and no one blinks twice at the fact that lots of middle aged men like geeky shit. there’s entire damn sitcoms about the topic lol
but once women do the same suddenly it’s inappropriate and ~cringy~ (whatever the fuck that’s supposed to mean) and they should be ashamed of themselves
