People who complain about secret police in socialist countries and territories forget that almost every other capitalist country has secret police of their own, they just call it something else. The shit the CIA has done around the world would make even the KGB blush.

This is probably even more shady than it seems. They raise the rates and then less people go. Low attendance numbers leads to that park getting less attention and less money. This discourages new parks and devalues current parks. Then the government can be like “lol people don’t care about nature let’s drill” Parks and libraries should be free places for people to enrich themselves, but smart sheep aren’t worth anything 🐑
^^^This. It’s why they’re also slashing park funding. According to the linked article, the current budget proposal includes:
Cutting base operating funding by $132 million, affecting at least
90 percent of parks. This includes cuts to law enforcement, health and
safety, natural and cultural resource projects, and volunteer and youth
programs.
Cutting 1,242 staff positions.
A 37 percent cut to the Historic Preservation Fund.
A drastic cut to federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, which
helps parks purchase private lands within park boundaries from willing
sellers that would otherwise be vulnerable to inappropriate commercial
or residential development.
Elimination of the National Heritage Area program, which preserves
large historic landscapes managed through innovative partnerships.
Combined with the drastic rate hike, it’s hard to see this as anything other than a ploy to force park closures.
This proposal is currently open for public comments and will be open until November 23.

Please write a comment saying how much you love the parks or a certain park or why you think this is a bad idea. If you don’t live in America write something about how you travel here to see the parks or how you wish that your country had a park service like America (the American government loves having its ego stroked)
Public comments are the only thing the park service is going to see. They aren’t going to see how many notes this post gets, they’re going to look at that comments page to see how many people they would tick off it they did this. So please, reblog this post but go comment, it’s the only way to let the parks service know how you feel.
I have just been accepted for a VERY cheap unit. Being in a place this cheap could change my entire life. This is the only place I could find this cheap that is also close to my doctors and university, so I wouldn’t have to pay much for transport.
However, the owner has only agreed to let me in if I can pay my first weeks rent in one day. This is because it’s a really sought after unit.

I need £350 (or $460 USD) in order to attend my appointment with an immigration lawyer this Monday, October 30th, 2017. I have 4 days to raise this money.
I’ve known I’ve needed a solicitor for some time, but two UK immigration attorneys who are trusted friends of mine advised I get representation immediately, and recommended a specific firm. It comes with a high price tag. If I wish to retain counsel, it will cost £2,000 eventually (and that’s not counting the cost of the visa or the healthcare surcharge, which the Tories are raising to a ridiculous amount).
I feel that getting expert counsel from an experienced solicitor is an absolute emergency at this point if I not wish to have my family broken apart by borders.
I am a Black, disabled, lesbian with a young child, and I don’t feel I have that many options. I love my wife & child; we’re in a tricky situation. Please help. I couldn’t survive losing any one of them.

conservative students swear that every university professor is some radical leftist with an agenda when usually it’s a professor that just uses critical thinking skills, context, and has empathy
if you swear all the professors you encounter are wrong, it might actually be that your opinions are outdated, bigoted, and incorrect lmao
This is actually the reason behind the popular notion within conservative circles that universities have a “liberal bias.”
Consistently, conservative students will leave higher ed because they perceive critical thinking, self-critique, and open discussion as attacks on their selfhood, rather than as a process of refining ideas and arguments. All of their accusations about how the people who disagree with them are just “too sensitive” are nothing more than projection, because they very idea that they should question their own assumptions is something they believe would only make them weak.
