The Republican candidate for governor (Gillespie) has followed Trump, making the race about confederate statues (FUCK SLAVEMASTER STANS) and sanctuary cities (even though there are NO SANCTUARY CITIES IN VIRGINIA).

If he wins, this will be the blueprint for state and local elections through 2018, a racist “populist” movement that takes the hell we’re in right now and seals the deal for years or decades to come. THIS NEEDS TO END NOW.

If you are in VA, VOTE TUESDAY, and bring at least one friend who DIDN’T vote in 2016!

FIGHT RACISTS - FIGHT RACISM - VOTE THESE KLAN KLOWNS THE FUCK OUT

More info: The Northam-Gillespie election is once in a lifetime

“On Tuesday, Virginia’s voters confront what will almost certainly be the most consequential election for governor of their lifetimes.

The contest between Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam and Republican Ed Gillespie matters for the state, of course, but its implications will be even larger for the nation.

A Northam victory would send a signal to the country that President Trump is a severe drag on the GOP, especially if it were combined with Democratic pickups in the legislature. This would bolster the forces trying to contain Trump’s abuses and give heart to those doing the organizing work against him at the grass roots.

It would tell Republicans in Congress that coddling and imitating Trump carry a high cost while strengthening Democratic efforts to recruit strong candidates for the 2018 midterms.

A win by Gillespie would convey exactly the opposite message. It would ratify the Republican candidate’s vile and dishonest campaign tying Northam to felons and criminal gangs. This, in turn, would lead to more ugly racial and anti-immigrant appeals by GOP candidates next year. The party would decide that playing around with a few of Trump’s more hateful themes was the way to go. The race to the bottom would continue.”

TODAY IS THE DAY PEOPLE! LET’S DO THIS

“if you didn’t discover that label/tumblr/the internet, then you wouldn’t have identified with that bullshit gender.”

no, i wouldn’t have. i would have gone through life thinking something was wrong with me and every time someone uses the wrong pronouns/name, i would have felt like throwing up.

but i did discover that label/tumblr/the internet, and i realised that i wasn’t the only person who felt like this, and that made me feel supported and safe and happy in my own skin.

so kindly fuck off.

Also sexuality. I had no idea I was ace. I just thought I was broken

I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

They’ve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.

along the lines of my last reblog

disability activism is Shit ™ if the argument is “well we’re just like you”

if you argue “disabled people have value because we can contribute to capitalism” you put down people who cannot work or contribute to capitalism (and there were always be disabled people who cannot work)

You can’t say “we autistics are good because we can experience empathy” because low or no empathy people (autistic and allistic) exist and deserve respect. You can’t say “Respect me because i have a mental illness but i’m not like, cr*zy or anything I don’t hear voice lol” because people who hallucinate and people w/ psychosis exist and deserve respect

you can’t say “disabled people are good because we are just like abled people except (blank)” because there will always be disabled people who are not like abled people, who cannot do the things abled people can do. Respect for disabled people should not be based on meeting an abled standard. It should be given because we’re people, not because we act a certain way.

I wish more people got this because some ‘low-empathy’ people are the most compassionate and sympathetic in the universe, and I hate it when that’s taken to mean ‘unfeeling and probably hostile’ when nothing could be further from the truth

Or, as my dad put it,

Sympathy: I know how you feel
Empathy: I feel how you feel
Compassion: is there anything I can do to help?

Posting this because I see these words used interchangeably in RP writing a lot, and they are - in fact - not the same. Know the differences and impress your writer friends! It really is noticeable when someone has a strong grasp of vocabulary, and thus is a stronger writer.

Also, empathy is not always compassionate or sympathetic!  It very often goes with those two, but empathy itself is not a requirement for feeling sympathy or compassion at all.  Empathy works like a sponge, and can happen whether you care about the people around you or not.  It works with negative emotions such as anger, and can make you question which of the emotions you currently feel are your own.
