So my brother (Jacob) is 16 years old and has a disease called Osteogenesis imperfecta. It basically makes his bones super weak and he’s more likely to get seriously injured by doing things that most other people do regularly (playing sports, running, etc- one time he kicked a ball too hard and it chipped his hip. Another time my mom laid down with him in bed and when she layed on his arm, it broke).

Last Friday (9/8) his friends tried to teach him how to ride a bike for the first time ever. He ended up having a bad fall. I went with him to the emergency room after he called me and explained he needed help and the doctors explained that he ended up tearing his ligament and fractured one of his bones. Today (9/13) we got his MRI done and they doctors believe it’s a complete tear of the ACL. As of rn he can’t walk, his knee is too unstable and because of his disease, crutches aren’t the safest idea. The docs think it’s too much of a risk for him. Which means he’s forced to be in a wheelchair until it gets fixed. 

Unfortunately the only way to restore his knee would be to get surgery where they would take out a few of his hamstrings and use it to replace the torn ACL. The ligament won’t heal on its own so this is the only way for him to be able to walk again. I wish I had a solid price on how much this would cost us but we just know it’s going to be A LOT more than we can afford rn. My mom can’t work and my dad has always struggled with financial problems while supporting us so I want to make sure he’s able to get this done. We have 2 months until they call him back in for surgery because they want the knee to strengthen as much as it can before they go in and do more damage to it. I’m scared shitless. My brother is scared shitless. I’m sure our parents are scared shitless. 

I’m so sorry to make this post and I’m sorry I’ll be reblogging it throughout the next 2 months but he needs help. I haven’t gotten around to making a donation page because we don’t know how much it’ll cost us yet so we don’t have a goal. But I read online that ACL replacements can cost $20,000 to $50,000 and honestly we can’t even afford the $20,000. Hopefully insurance covers physical therapy or at least a little bit of it (our insurance sucks though and we usually end up paying out of pocket so rip). 

I want to see my brother walk again. I want to see him be happy. I’m so worried he won’t be able to walk normally again but it’s okay if that’s the case because I want him to be able to say “we tried as much as we could at least”. 

So I’m making this post to desperately ask anyone who’s capable and willing to help to please donate to him. He’s too young to have a card or anything so all payments are going to be accepted through my paypal and will be left untouched until the day he goes in for surgery. He’s so sweet and doesn’t deserve to go through this augh. I’m crying so hard rn. Literally any dollar counts. Even if we just raise $50, I will still make sure it reaches him so that my family can save up. Anything helps. Even kind words. So please consider donating or sharing this…

My brother and I are beyond stressed and he’s too scared to make this post on his Tumblr. He just wants to be able to walk again. He doesn’t want to be held back because our family is just too broke to afford the help available. 

Also, if anyone wants pictures or whatever or the MRI or x-rays or whatever just as proof before donating, we don’t mind sharing those. I just don’t want my brother to have to read any rude comments on here saying his disability is fake or that he’s only doing this for quick cash and attention. He doesn’t deserve that petty shit rn so if that’s all you can contribute I’m going to ask you to kindly screw off.

Guys my friend has a torn ACL and it’s been such a pain for her in the last few years.. it can make her collapse at any moment and has nearly got her ran over

Luckily we have the NHS to pay for our healthcare in England, my thoughts are with those who haven’t got acces to free healthcare.
