the word lover is so infinitely soft. So universal. So timeless. Two girls with awkward, hungry hands. A boy and a girl in the dark. Two men in empty light. A marriage of 40 years. Letters over eons. Sappho’s poems. The corner of a mouth. Lovers, lovers, lovers.
The age of killing your darlings on TV for the shock factor is dead. It’s been dead since Game of Mainstream Appeal killed off Sean Bean for the eight thousandth (8000th) time in onscreen fiction. The only possible shock left (the only one) is to make your main character queer. This is the time of the Shock Gay. The Surprise Asexual. The Bi-the-Way.
Bring all your characters out of the closet to startle and amaze in 2k18. I will be shocked you had the guts. I will be thrilled. I will watch your piece of crap show

After gunman Kevin Janson Neal killed his wife and then two neighbors Tuesday morning he headed for Rancho Tehama Elementary School, weapons in hand.
It was just before 8 a.m. when teachers heard the crackle of gunfire in the small, rural town of Rancho Tehama, in Northern California. The elementary school — with about 100 students and 9 staff — immediately went on lockdown.
The training that teachers and staff practice for such emergencies helped to prevent a massive school shooting like the horror at Sandy Hook elementary in 2012, says Richard Fitzpartrick the superintendent of the school’s district.
The fact that teachers and staff have to rehearse active shooter drills may seem unsettling, but Superintendent Fitzpatrick points to a silver lining: “If we can lockdown,” he says, “our kids can go home safely at the end of the day.”
