Hey y’all, I know that you guys don’t know me and all, but I was wondering if you guys can share this GoFundMe for my grandma eye surgery that me and my brother are launching. She has been having headaches and serious problems with her vision. She’s sooo sooo good, she has taken care of us ever since our mom left when we were little. She is so strong and kind, and loving.
I know this might not get far, we just don't know what to do right now. We don’t have insurance or anything and I don’t want her to just suffer through it. If you can reblog and donate if you’re able to. we just need help, she’s honestly the only family member that I have. The goal is $3752 which would just cover the surgery. Please y’all. please.
What problem is ending net neutrality trying to solve?
What failure of the current internet is ending net neutrality supposed to help us overcome? We’ve gone from no internet WHEN I STARTED GRADUATE SCHOOL to BILLIONS of interconnected devices, sites and pathways to information – a network that has revolutionized whole industries and spread opportunities for learning and commerce around the world.
How is this a problem? How is the current system going to forestall the next generation of developments, thereby justifying the shift to “not net neutrality”?
Of course, I know the answer to my question. From Trump and the Republicans’ point of view, the problem with net neutrality is that net neutrality requires internet providers to forego a revenue stream by preventing them for using their power as internet service providers to compel both internet users and internet content providers to pay to prioritize their activities on the web. In other words, net neutrality prevents what economists call “rent-seeking” behavior in which powerful corporations or entities to use their power to extract more than their market-negotiated share of your money and mine.
Ending net neutrality is, in other words, yet another way to transfer wealth UP the social ladder, allowing the wealthy and powerful to use their wealth and power to increase their wealth and power … at your expense.
And that problem – how to extract ever more of your wealth for their benefit – is, from Trump and the Republicans’ twisted point of view, a problem worth solving.
Net neutrality is the principle that Internet providers like Comcast & Verizon should not control what we see and do online. In 2015, startups, Internet freedom groups, and 3.7 million commenters won strong net neutrality rules from the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The rules prohibit Internet providers from blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization—"fast lanes" for sites that pay, and slow lanes for everyone else.
John Oliver on the danger of ending net neutrality:
Net Neutrality isn’t an American problem. Its Global.
SO you’re in the UK like me. Or the EU in general. High speed internet is a ‘right’ here. We won’t be affected, right?
Right?
Wrong.
If you watch YouTube then you’re in for a world of hurt. Not only will American Youtubers have their uploads strangled, but their viewers will drop off at an alarming rate as people can’t afford the extra and the internet is too slow to watch videos and streams. Less views, less revenue, less money to pay bills.
Even International youtubers will go broke as their American audience drops off. Big Youtubers may still make a living, but everyone else will drop off the platform.
There are far bigger issues at steak here. Censorship, corruption etc, but if you’re reading this you watch YouTube.
Act now or lose it forever. Spread the word to all your fandoms.
As thanksgiving approaches and many of you will be feasting with your families, i just want to take the time to remind yall that the food you eat is planted and picked by exploited people of color. So I encourage yall to donate to any of these organizations that work with farmworkers and their families:
