The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater by Andrew Eccles
A look at acclaimed photographer Andrew Eccles’ impressive body of work with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; one of the most powerful dance companies in the world.
His classically composed, technically flawless style showcases the majesty of the human body in all its glory, capturing the dancers in performance, behind-the-scenes, and in stunning portraits.
in case yall been sleeping here’s a reminder that we just shut down Mall Of America, the largest mall in the USA, to protest the wrongful deaths of young black men by police. #blacklivesmatter
“the practice of capitalism and the greatest commercial holiday of the year are more important than your right to a peaceful protest”
no, unfortunately - that was Shane Patrick Boyle. that there are multiple people dying because fucking insulin is priced too high is immoral. from the article: “Even with insurance, some Americans are spending around half their income on insulin and other supplies. In fact, price gouging from Eli Lilly and other insulin manufacturers has already had deadly consequences. Shane Patrick Boyle, a founder of Zine Fest Houston, died on March 18 after his GoFundMe campaign to pay for insulin came up $50 short. Alec Raeshawn Smith, age 26, was found dead in his apartment on June 27. He was rationing his insulin after he aged out of his parent’s insurance coverage. The sad fact is more people would be alive today if insulin was affordable for all Americans.” x
things that i have stated multiple times this year: if you argue against universal healthcare, no matter your reason, you need to acknowledge that you argue that it’s okay for people to die of preventable/treatable illnesses.
I’ve been really busy lately so my blog has been 99% queued, but this is important
Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this supposed to be Captain AMERICA kneeling for the NATIONAL ANTHEM? What on earth is wrong with you people? Shouldn’t he be the LAST person to disrespect his country? One would think he would be AGAINST taking something pure and unifying and tarnishing it with divisiveness and hate for short-term political posturing.
In case you haven’t seen this, I think cap’s take on the issue is clearly stated here.
Dude. Steve has rejected being Captain America before because he was disappointed in the country’s behavior. The national anthem is a song. The flag is a piece of cloth. It is not pure. They are items. Things. Actual patriotism is not idolatry. This flag worship and demanded reverence for a piece of fucking cloth is idolatry. It is deplorable. It is not honoring soldiers or veterans. It is idolatry.
Actual patriotism says it is not only your right but your civic duty to stand up when your country has fucked up and say it has fucked up and demand it does better.
No song, not flag, no ritual of standing is worth more than human lives. They are not even close. If you’re putting them in a hierarchy and if gazing lovingly at a textile is above or even close to the lives of actual living breathing human beings, Captain America is disappointed in you. You are why he’d be Nomad again.
i only heard about this 2 months ago. its been 3 years????
Remember this started because Snyder switched Flint from a freshwater mountain lake to the polluted Flint River simply to allow his wife’s company to use the lake for bottling instead. This is a manufactured crisis of corruption and capitalism.
Also remember that the pipes corroded because they refused to pay for the chemical used to make the water less acidic.
Remember that when the first E. coli outbreak from the water popped up, the city hall was given water coolers by the state, free of charge, all while denying that the water could be unsafe to drink.
Remember that, despite having a huge budget surplus and a “rainy day fund,” set aside that could easily cover the cost of relocating the residents by buying their houses/paying their debt, or could cover a large chunk of the cost of replacing the pipes, the state has decided to continue to only put in the minimal amount of effort.
Remember that flint is majority POC, majority impoverished, and is still being faced with crippling water bills from the Detroit water supply company, where they are often charged $50 a month just to use the service, on top of the cost of their water bill.
Remember that there will now be an entire generation of children who will now be damaged by lead poisoning and damage from the multitude of neurotoxins.
Remember that this is what privatized natural resources looks like. Remember that these people are being punished for having the audacity to dare to be poor in an economy that won’t let them be anything but.
At every level, this has not been a mistake.
The State and City are most upset that people know its happening and are resisting nation-wide.
But if we lose focus they lose even the small amount of aid they’ve managed to get.
This is how they do it. It’s a siege on the public empathy. Eventually we become numb to the problem and despair. Or something bigger happens.
gentle reminder that you are allowed to feel whatever it is your feeling. it’s okay to be overwhelmed, sad, happy, confused, mad, excited, frustrated, or to feel everything all at once. it’s okay to feel and not be able to put it into words. it’s okay to cry, laugh, pout or sing with emotion. we are social and emotional beings - these feelings are our thermometers for living. so give yourself permission to feel - the comfy, the warm and the not so fuzzy feelings. they’re all a part of this human experience.
