Today I got to go on one of our runs to more rural shelters to help relieve overcrowding there. We ended up bringing back 21 kittens and 10 dogs. So fun day. But this morning, while I was getting stuff together in preparation for the 90 minute drive…. This happened.

image

Excuse you Tiniest Opossum, but you are NOT allowed to escape through the front bars of the cat carrier we were housing you in. I’m going to put you back.

image

“NO!”

I am going to catch you and put you back and you have no say in this matter.

image

“NO!”

Catching you and putting you back now.

image

“NOOOOOO!”

Aaaand back you go. Let go of the purple towel and go in the cardboard box.

“Noooooooooooo!”

Happy 5 year Opossumversary!

Happy 6 year Opossumversary!

Radio Free Monday

copperbadge:

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways to Give:

mikhyel and its partner are moving out of a bad situation and into a much better place, but the move is proving more expensive than anticipated; they’re raising funds for pet vaccination, new IDs including name changes, and car registration. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.

Anon linked to a fundraiser for obaewankenope, who is raising funds to cover food and other bills; you can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.

thelongestway linked to several fundraising linkslists for Ukrainian aid after Russian invasion forces destroyed a dam that is wreaking havoc on a number of population centers and will eventually likely lead to loss of water supply for the region; you can read more and find giving information at instagram here or read more, reblog, and find giving information here or or here (both at Tumblr).

happinessisntfun is raising funds to help cover their cat Angus’s stomatitis surgery; he’s having a full mouth extraction surgery in early July and they’re working to raise at least a few hundred dollars to help cover the $5.5K surgery. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.

Recurring Needs:

gwydion linked to a fundraiser for Veronica and Kurtis, friends who have secured housing but are low on cash they’ve been using to survive to this point; they still need to raise $3000 before move-in to help cover deposit and living expenses in the meantime. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.

rilee16 is raising funds to cover bills and rent that their roommate is unable to cover after giving them no notice he would not have the funds; they are still short after having made a payment to the electric utility to keep the power on. You can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.

gwydion’s friend Karrin is running a fundraiser for a cat rescue; it’s a no-kill shelter and most cats are fostered until adopted. Karrin would like to host a “game day” fundraiser, but needs funds to purchase the board/card/etc games for people to play. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you’re new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

time for another three variable poll. you should probably read the blurb under the poll before voting.

how do you feel about snakes and tattoos

I like snakes and tattoos, and I identify as queer

I like snakes and tattoos, and I don’t identify as queer

I like snakes but not tattoos, and I identify as queer

I like snakes but not tattoos, and I don’t identify as queer

I like tattoos but not snakes, and I identify as queer

I like tattoos but not snakes, and I don’t identify queer

I don’t like snakes or tattoos, and I identify as queer

I don’t like snakes or tattoos, and I don’t identify as queer

“I like snakes” in this context means you actively like them and think they’re cool and are okay with the fact that they eat rodents and other creatures the way they do. if you are ambivalent about snakes you fall into the “don’t like” category

“I like tattoos” in this context means you have or would like to have tattoos on your own body (ignoring any possible difficulties with pain, needles, money, or time). if you just like how they look on other people but don’t want to have one of your own you fall into the “don’t like” category

y'all are on the queer website you know whether you identify as that or not

homunculus-argument:

And speaking of scurvy, I am eternally amused by the thing where some ancient form of healing that was born in a time where people didn’t know exactly how the human body works, or what causes it to stop working sometimes, that still somehow worked. Like how so many old folk medicinal plants were listed as a cure for various ailments that - from a modern view - are clearly just symptoms of scurvy, and the plant itself is rich in vitamin C.

I recall reading some story, no recollection of the exact time or place, where the king of a large empire suffered from constant horrible headaches and was incapable of falling asleep unless drugged or blackout drunk. Sick of taking temporary fixes to dull the pain and having to be sedated every night, he called up some old sage healer who was said to know how to fix things nobody else could explain, and the healer heard his symptoms and went

“Hmm. You spend too much time being a king. Your skull is packed so full of kingly thoughts that they don’t all fit in there and that’s why your head is in pain. You need to spend time not being a king.” And prescribed him to schedule three days every month where he must go to a peasant village where nobody knows he’s the king, live with a family there under a fake name and identity, work in the rice fields with them, eating the same food and sleeping on the same mats. Absolutely nobody is allowed to address him as the king, speak to him of any royal or political matters, and he himself is not allowed to think any kingly thoughts or think of himself as the king.

And naturally, this worked. Taking a regular scheduled break from a highly stressful office desk job to completely decompress, paired with physical exercise in the form of hard but simple physical labour, plain and simple food and Just Not Thinking About Your Fucking Job All The Time does help chronic stress, which here was worded as “spending too much time being a king clogs your brain.”

Sometimes you do have ghosts in your blood, though I’m not entirely sure whether you should do cocaine about it.

serafaina:

OK. OKAY. YOU GUYS.

I am LOVING the fucking chocolate guy’s netflix show! It’s FANTASTIC! Anf hold on to your fucking boots y’all cause it’s actually not what I was expecting at all!

image

Do you miss the gentleness of the Great British Bake-Off? THIS SHOW IS SO KIND AND GENTLE! For fuck’s sake, NO ONE GETS KICKED OFF! No. No, Listen to this! When they lose the first challenge (a pastry one), the punishment is… They get private lessons with Amaury to help improve what brought their scores down instead of competing in the second chocolate challenge.

When the one black lady contestant messed up the first challenge I was super bummed and like, OF COURSE. But NO. She got lessons! She struggled! she worked hard! and she won a later challenge! GROWTH MY DUDES! They are there TO LEARN and GROW and Maybe Win a Big Prize!

They ALL get to stay and keep doing their best! and at the end the one who did the best overall is the one who gets the money prize!

image

Look at this lovely line up! they make COOL LOOKING FANCY THINGS! Amaury tells us how he does some of the fancy things he does! They OFFER TO HELP EACH OTHER WHEN THEY FINISH EARLY AND GET PROPS FOR THAT! (not taunted for not using their own time better). The set up even kinda makes the one who is like, I’m in it to win it, is the villain and doing bad. The rest who are like, I’m here to learn and grow and maybe make friends! AUGH YOU GUYS!

Amaury is soft spoken and kind, and has a pretty voice and a pretty smile and that’s nice to watch too. The chefs are talented and artistic and they actually give the THE TIME to make nice things! It’s not “Wham out some half-assed garbage in 2 hours so we can shotgun the production and laugh at your garbage” like most cooking shows nowadays. NO! 14 hour challenges! They’re still hard, but they get to actually make cool stuff! fancy stuff! Stuff I want to look at and cheer for them!

The episodes average 38 min and aren’t a huge time commitment, the first episode being the longest one, and there are only 8 total so it’s not like you have to really get in for the long haul. \

WATCH IT! Pump it! we need more cooking shows like this and less that are sad and mean!
