A very fun connection I just had watching Coraline, my comfort movie (weird I know for what’s in it).

Coraline goes to the Other Mother and friends when she sleeps. It’s portrayed to be all good until the Other Mother doesn’t get what she wants.

Coraline is helped by a black cat with a deep voice. The cat warns her about the Other Mother and everything else.

My fun little theory? Coraline is helped by Dream of the Endless, Lord Morpheus, the Oneiromancer, etc. The Other Mother is a Nightmare that is wreaking havoc on the waking world that Dream needs help with wrangling.

In episode one of The Sandman, when Dream goes after Alex Burgess, he is a cat. The Other Mother and it’s world has buttons for eyes (sort of like The Corinthian). All the characters in the Other world are just puppets of The Other Mother (the nightmare).

That’s my idea of Coraline now though! Makes it a little more fun.

Edit: Other Wybie is made of sand, like Dreams sand. The Beldam is named like The Corinthian. I just keep finding more evidence!

Why do Sandman Newbies always assume Morpheus is bad with kids?!

thenightling:

I keep coming across new Sandman fans who have leapt to the conclusion that Morpheus is bad with children.

In the comics, according to both Calliope and Daniel, Morpheus is very good with children.   Morpheus only had his falling out with his son, Orpheus, after he was grown up.  According to Calliope he used to make him musical instruments and was very doting.

Also Morpheus was very loving with the child, Hope in The Sandman: Overture and clearly wanted to adopt her as his own.  He told her bedtime stories and gave her dreams of everything being kind. And he tried to protect her.

In The Sandman: The Kindly ones he helped some children who were on their own adventure and gave them ice cream.

Also Morpheus kneels down for children to speak to them at their level.

You know that meme of “I’ve only had (insert animal or person here) for five minutes but if anything happens…” that’s Morpheus with Hope.

I have no idea who Mazikeen is, but I love how Dream keeps acknowledging her while he’s visiting Hell.

Even Matthew seems a bit intrigued about it!

Then when Choronzon gets defeated, Dream is intensely staring at his helm, eager to get it back.

But he doesn’t forget to thank Mazikeen.
