1. cotestuck said: 95% successful birth control is a LOT better than poison because less pigeons means more space and resources to make more pigeons. That is how pigeons work. Actually providing comfortable housing and food for the feral population meant that they stayed in one place where their eggs were easy to collect to prevent unwanted clutches.
  2. cotestuck said: I went over, as briefly as I could while staying as on topic as I could how pigeons stemmed from rock doves and the rise and fall of their soscietal esteem, to explain where feral pigeons came from and why their population got so overwhelmingly large. As it is too big to treat feral pigeons like stray dogs, I went over what the german Street Pigeon Project found in their experiment and why it made sense that that would work better than just trapping and killing them.
  3. cotestuck said: The point of this was to point out that feral pigeons are not wild animals. I am equating them to dogs because feral pigeons and stray dogs are in exactly the same situation, but it is common knowledge that dogs are not wild wolves. That domestic pigeons are not wild rock doves is not such common knowledge, and the point of that was to explain that in very simple, easy to follow terms to the people who do not know.

  6. 50ap said: ….how to raise a pet -.- To hell with that. If you want to help change something, inform yourself about such “resting places” and how to donate or actually be part of such an project.
  7. 50ap said: ..survived. Heck, the plan with these shelters is excellent, but thats all. Giving them the pleasure of acting like they were “beloved puppies” is bad. With that, the whole plan would fail. Everything. If you, as a living being, want balance in the world, don’t feed them or make them feel safe. Only in these shelters, they should “feel home”, so their birthrate can be regulated. Damnit -.- Stop romanticing/humanizing everything!! I think like most people don’t even know.
  8. 50ap said: Damn, this article is…kind of written a very wrong way. The thing is, you should have made a point when you talked about pigeon shelters, swapping eggs with fake-aggs and shit. The whole “Sky-Puppy” Bullshit is so PETA-style -.- I am well aware that humans caused what pigeons became nowadays. But this “article” sounds more like “hey start feeding them again so they can overpopulate again. It was exactly this, what ‘caused that problem. Overway they never would have..
