  8. aridara said: @jacquelynnscieszka It’s still socialization. It still makes them straight. It still makes them as privileged as straight people. Unless, of course, trans women are NOT socialized as “men” and are NOT privileged as “men”.
  9. jacquelynnscieszka said: @aridara lolllll except socialisation at the two sexes isn’t to make them that sex. male socialisation is to make them more aggressive and assertive, and female socialisation is to make them more docile and “go with the flow” type. and yeah gay people were socialised as straight, but it is not the same kind of socialisation as the ones between the sexes as it has different purposes.
  10. aridara said: @jacquelynnscieszka And yes, there IS “straight socialization”. We teach children to be straight. That’s what socialization IS.
  11. aridara said: @jacquelynnscieszka No. If trans women are socialized as men because people believe they’re men, then gay people are socialized as straight, given that people believe they’re straight.
  12. jacquelynnscieszka said: @aridara lol this is a completely false equivalency. gay people are oppressed when they are recognised as gay, same with trans people. however there is no such thing as “straight socialisation”, as we do not assign babies a role of gay/straight at birth and then treat them one way.
  13. aridara said: @jacquelynnscieszka Irrelevant. They’re socialized to be straight, so they’re as privileged and as homophobic as straight people.
  14. jacquelynnscieszka said: @aridara except there isn’t a way that straight and gay people are socialised differently, unlike amab and afab people. everyone is socialised expecting to be straight, but amab and afab people are specifically socialised differently
