There’s no clever subversion or twist on the formula. Katherine simply is an asshole who needs to be beaten senseless by Petruchio, and everything is from his point of view. Also, Katherine is a straw woman while Shylock and Othello both have depth and complexity. Hell, even Richard III talks about how everybody hates him even before he did anything.
